Hot Flashes and Healing: A Sacred Journey for Black Women from Perimenopause to Menopause by Shondrea Harroon
A useful book by a life coach, with many tips, affirmations, and explanations about menopause and perimenopause. I got this for my wife, and I learned a lot. Wish we had read it sooner; this is something maybe women in their late '30s should read, to prepare. Helpful if you're going through it. Short, well-written and -edited, not as "woo-woo" as I was nervous it would be. Practical, but also spiritual.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. But Will It Fly?: The History and Science of Unconventional Aerial Power and Propulsion by Iver P. Cooper
Another very good, very technical book from the author, about various power methods. Steam, diesel, solar, oars, flapping wings, and on top of those a "miscellaneous" chapter! Very detailed. Very well researched and sourced. Some useful illustrations. Highly recommended if you are into aviation history and oddities.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Received as a free sample copy. A history of the US, in short snippets about culture. Not a "great man" history, not about specific events. Brief looks into fashions, "madnesses," and just how people thought and lived. It'd be a good "bathroom book," with single paragraph entries, and a page or so on each subject. A few cutesie illustrations. Not a lot of depth, but covers topics pretty well, and makes you think sometimes. It's about us, and what we've been "into." Could use an index, but the contents section is pretty detailed. Well-written and -edited. Entertaining and readable.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I got a sample copy from LibraryThings's Early Review group. A comprehensive overview of airship design and use. Goes into deep technical detail, but still very readable. Covers all aspects of design, while touching on history, specific airship examples, and current and future uses. A few photos; many tables, 60 pages of appendices. If you are at all interested in airships, or aviation design in general, this is a worthy read.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Love Penn and Teller, read one of their non-fiction books, so I jumped on this. Well-written and -edited, half (or more) a memoir by Penn, and certainly an insight into his life and worldview. Fun, funny, fast-paced. Had a hard time taking breaks; always wanted to see what was coming next.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Wasn't sure what to expect from this one. Could have been cheesy, but it wasn't at all. Half photo book, half interview collection. Each band has a short overview of its history, plus plentiful quotes, on one page; opposite there's a band photo. And at the end, a large photo section with album covers and publicity shots.
Interesting. Nostalgic. Makes me want to listen to some favorites, and search out the few I don't remember. Beautiful, makes a nice coffee table type book, but also plenty of history and amusement.

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.A loving memoir of Paris. And life. And love. And people.
Perhaps best if you've been to Paris, but it tells stories and touches on themes that apply to many people. And you can certainly learn a lot about Paris, and France, from reading it.
Well written and edited. Lovingly crafted sentences, evocative and touching. And sometimes funny.

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Got this through Early Reviewers. A lovely little alphabet book about airplanes. Specifically, Canadian airplanes. All the classics, plus a few I didn't know. My daughter had fun reading it and learning about the planes (and their names.) Sort-of realistic drawings of each plane, a little rhyme about each, and a short paragraph in back telling more about them. Also a short bio of the real Alis. Highly recommended.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.A lush, well-researched guide to special editions from the factory, dealers, and speed shops. Loads of color photos. Well-written, and generally well-edited (with the occasional typo.) Easy to reference specific shops. Every year, every variation, every little plaque and brake upgrade and paint detail explained.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Just received, told my wife I'd let her read it when I'm done- and she already has it. I thought it would be a collection of essays, but it is a fairly small picture book with a poem. Touching for adults, but also good for kids, so we'll probably give it to our daughter. Would make a great gift.
Brief poetic verses for individuals, and groups, of important Black Americans. As an aviation buff I was happy to see Bessie Coleman and the Tuskegee Airmen. Plenty of other people covered, with snappy, sometimes amusing couplets. Nice photos. Beautiful little book.

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.A lovely little book, and just in time for the holiday season. Beautifully illustrated and bound, with a fun tale my daughter loved- and an unexpected cat.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Got this lovely edition from Early Reviewers, and read it with my daughter immediately. With two cays, she is familiar with how hard it is to train them (though we trained one to sit and fetch.) She laughed and laughed, and loved reading it. Pretty simple vocabulary, beautiful drawings, a fun book.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.A handy book with info on all the things you wonder about carbon footprints. Easily searchable, and you can just skim and get the main info, or dig into why each item/activity has such an impact. A paperback update of an older book, well written and edited. Not dry, and not just academic- you can use it to make decisions about your lifestyle.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I swear I requested this for my daughter, not myself, and was glad when we won it from Early Reviewers. It is a large, beautifully-illustrated children's book. Nice story. Fun pictures. She loved it. There is a bit of info in the back about planes.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Lavishly illustrated, with both nice exterior shots and detail shots. Well-written and edited. Covers all the special editions, from tuners and dealers. Shelby you've heard of, but there were many more. Goes into precise details about mods, covers the personalities a bit.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Hot Springs and Moonshine Liquor: A History of Illegal Whiskey in the Shenandoah Valley by Louella Bryant
A combination of family history and local, even national history. Well written, well-edited, and full of interesting stories. Plus a few recipes. A fun read, and made me curious about the author's other books.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. An interesting, relatively brief memoir focusing on the author's life in the Air Corps, late '30s into WW2. Written with his daughter, covers personal life briefly, and includes some interesting anecdotes. Well written and edited.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This was my introduction to Neil Asher, and... he ain't my cup of tea.
All these are short stories set in his "Polity" universe, and if you like that and are familiar with it, you will probably like these. To me, they are random short stories, schlocky sci-fi stereotypes. Well-written, but they feel shallow, like a Clive Cussler novel (okay, better than that, but stilted and shallow.) They'll make good movies.
This was a free ebook from Librarything, and I often love those. This, I couldn't finish.

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. As a boy in the '70s, I of course knew who Don Prudhomme was. Hot Wheels, Snake and Mongoose- you couldn't miss him. I'm not super into drag racing, though I've been to one or two races, but when I saw this I thought "okay, cool, might be interesting, and I can pass it on to friends who like this kind of thing." But it turned out to be a really good book. Well-written (with a co-author, but she seems to capture his diction and stories perfectly.) Lots of photos, most from his collection. Great stories, lots of background on his life. I learned things that surprised me (and him.) Some contributions from friends he mentions, and family. Really a nice book visually and content-wise. I will let friends borrow it, but I think I want to keep it.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. An excellent collection. Yes, best of, but you never know just how good they will be. These were uniformly astonishing. Funny, unexpected, touching... I got a free copy, but would gladly have paid for it.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. An alright mystery, but it felt like a slog- for me to read, and perhaps to write? Just not very enjoyable. I had hoped for more.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.A good overview of the destruction and rebuilding. A plea for help. Just, not that good of a read.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Overview of many of the black settlements of Ohio. Mostly early ones, and there is fairly sparse documentation on those, but between letters, interviews, and news reports, they flesh out the families and communities that arose before and after the Civil War.
An excellent, if dated, compendium of bacon facts, recipes, and love. Lots of interesting info. Plenty of recipes and ideas for bacon use. Lists of suppliers, restaurants, etc. But, since it's about 15 years old I would be careful about assuming these are still around and making the same things.
Written with love. I could almost smell the bacon.

Impressive overview of important battles. Most are chosen because some new technology changed warfare from that point on. Fairly detailed, though half a dozen pages per battle means things are necessarily simplified. A few minor errors. Plenty of illustrations and maps. An enjoyable read and good reference.
Another excellent Squadron book. Many photos, brief history, a few color profiles. Covers all variants and uses.
Excellent history of a famous plane. Picked this up at a church sale, oddly, and enjoyed it.
Another great In Action book. One of the newer ones, 2013, with lots of photos and information. Covers all variants. Short bits on foreign users, tons of stuff on all US Navy use.
Another excellent collection of shorts from Turtledove. All alternative history, but some very surprising. Enjoyable, thought-provoking. I was, as always, sad when it was over.
An interesting, scholarly take on the legend and possible truth of King Arthur. Covers the stories, archaeology, development and origins of the legends, etc. Broken up into several essays about different topics. Out of date, but a nice foundation for where the legend came from, as well as a snapshot of how archaeology and historiography work.
