just my kind of book. smart kids, with alot to offer each other, but barriers need to be broken down by a common experience in order for them to know they have something to share. What perfect experience other than a road trip. And the protaganist counts everything.
Fast paced, full of action, set in SF in 1851. Brave and curious young girl protaganist who wants to write. mother and female companion are clearly a couple, looking for better chances for their daughter.

a riveting and complex retelling of the Rumplestiltskin tale. Loved the spooky parts and the way the characters developed and became more intricately interwoven, and the clever use of names.
just do it - start reading and you'll want to continue. Who wouldn't be compelled by a story of an orphan raised by ghosts and being pursued by "everyman Jack." You'll be lookin gbehind you on a dark street for days.
it's always good when the dog sticks around until the last page. It's touch and go for a while, but hard work wins.

definitely worth the mind games to figure out who is realated to whom. This turns into apageturner that you won't be ableto put down. characters with intense relationships, and complex problems, even if they are mostly of their own making. This one I will read again in a few years and relish it even more.
An Amusing look at the world from the perspective of a chinese american boy who is afraid of just about everything nad unwilling to speak out loud in school.
a great combination of small town goodness, unlikely friendship and magic. When Mibs "savvy" turns out not to be what she thought it was she's already ensconced in a heep of trouble. But sometimes trouble leads to good things happening. Get aboard the pink bus and you'll find out just how many good things are coming.
A very fun read for the erudite middle school set. Each character is well developed and the plot moves along at a good pace with an exciting climax. A nice twist on saving the world from an evil man.

Developing immediate empathy for hte book draws the reader into a story of persecution and survival. Our protaganist is youngm, quirky and irreverent, a direct contrast, with the very ancient and religious text she is studying. The chapters rock back and forth between the book's very personal history and the conservationists personal struggle. At first I thought the chapters were two disparate but on reflection I really liked the contrast.
A quick read with suspense and intrigue. George does a nice job of expanding on the traditional aspects of the tale, and filling out the characters nicely.
