I am ½ way through and wow, this book has me turning pages to find out what happens next. I love the writing and the setting, I've not read anything like it. More later. But now back to this book!

I won't lie, this book was hard for me to read. I didn't like Seth, the boyfriend, I didn't like the co-dependency in the relationship, I didn't like that she put herself at risk while trying to survive, I didn't like that it was "all on her"! I've seen documentaries about sex workers, and realize that the profession exists because there is a clientele. This book (& subject) just exposes the worst in humans IMO, and I kept finding myself saying NO out loud throughout reading this book, like No, don't get in the car, No don't open that door, No, don't go into that room!!!

I love a good vampire story. This was a very fast paced one, too fast paced for me to develop a bond with the characters. It had some good fight aspects, but it all happens within the span of 48 hours. Can someone fall in love in less than 6 hours? Infatuated, I can believe... I did like the element of the old Greek gods though, Hephaestus has always been a favorite, the god of fire.

This book was a total page turner. Realistically suspenseful, with a cliffhanger in the end. The author has a lot of experience as a first responder and it really came through in this work of fiction. There is also a lot of wisdom and conflicting emotions in the main character's (Amanda's) recovery from a brutal near death experience (no spoilers here). Amanda and her actions were truthfully written and very believeable; she's a well-developed character that you know has great strength and moral fiber. I like that in a person and really love it when I am reading. When is your next book, Todd? I'm a fan now.

Engaging story and plot, but a bit "fluffy". I really liked the fact that these five girls lived in a desert state & made up a club and envisioned themselves as mermaids. I like the scene at the pool too. I can't say that I loved some of the characters though, especially Dorian. Not a lot about him was redeeming. I did want to know more about Sawyer and Clover.
