Easy and entertaining way to learn about meat processing in the United States without reading Fast Food Nation or The Jungle.
This is some great writing! Pretty amazing to making the life of a fish entertaining and compelling.
This is one of those books that gets such steam behind it that people are afraid to say that they just don't like it.
First, the book needed serious editing. Early in the book Sebold says that the dead cannot do certain things, then later in the book we find them doing just that. Characters are not fully developed. The mother is rather unimportant, then important material is shared at the end.
I heard Sebold on the radio and she was so strident. I can just imagine her telling the editor that he or she is unqualified to comment or change the text in any way because he or she "didn't experience" what she had. It sounded as if an editor would need to be very strong to deal with her.
Not afraid to say it: This book was seriously overrated.
