A consistently thought-provoking conversation between two great artists, both undoubtedly in love with the moving image. It uses film editing as a starting point for an original disquisition on the art of film and artistic creativity in general, with many wonderful insights. Movie references abound; this is an undisputed gem of a book that no film-lover should miss.
A rather overlooked but extremely well written and thorough introductory book on Solid State Physics. Written in 1990, covers in depth all the basic concepts in a lucid way by providing all the basic mathematical formulations without falling into excessive pedantry together with some pertinent experimental data. It is very conveniently organised, far superior to the incoherent and rambling style of Kittel, and more experimentally oriented than Ashcroft and Mermin. A first class text book on Solid State Physics for undergraduate students.

A superb Anthology. Several famous thinkers and philosophers (from Plato to Freud) as well as some not so well known contemporaries are introduced succinctly followed by a selection of some of their key writings. First class editorial work, comprehensively referenced and analysed, this book could introduce to an open minded reader new concepts and ways of perceiving and understanding the world as formulated by influential thinkers whose works he could look into more thoroughly after getting a first idea. Indispensable.
This is an indispensable book on one of the key directors of the American Cinema. Coupling biographical information with a thorough analysis of the films as well as some illuminating interviews, the book sheds light to the bumpy career to a strongly individual director who was somehow caught between the collapse of the studio system and the american new wave of the 70s. Anyone who wishes to rediscover or revisit the films of Robert Aldrich should definitely read this book.
