This is noir but a style that you probably have never really thought of before. One thing that came to me while reading was that this is like a less profane James Ellroy.

As one would expect from Penn Jillette, this book is a wild ride. Within the first few pages there is a massive fight and everything rolls down from there.

Most know of the German-American Bund aka the American Nazis, but most won’t know of the resistance to them, Jewish mobsters. This isn’t an academic look, more of a Winchell style look. The author does not hold back on his own feelings towards anybody, but also doesn’t glorify the gangsters, showing meeting rather violent ends later on.

I really enjoyed this book, it goes from the streets of Florida, to a aircraft carrier all the while retaining a sense of realism for the time that it depicts.

The cover to this book is one of the best that I have ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot. Billed as a combination of historical and metaphysical fiction, this is something that I have never read before and was an intriguing read.

A thrilling and smashing look at a somewhat close and far away future. There is peril right up to the very end and just when things look like they are done, we are dropped into a cliffhanger for the next adventure.

Futuristic sci-fi is always a favorite of mine, and this book lives up to those others. A thrilling conclusion to a two part series, that has all the twist and turns I love.

What if stories are very popular, and mix in the founding of the United States, gold, and some important papers, you have a very intricate tale. My favorite parts are definitely the moments in the past.

Everybody knows about HBO today, its status as the original premium network and Warner Bros. flagship streaming platform, but do you know the history of the channel? Told in the oral history style so all the people involved have their actions spelled out in their own words.

This is a twisting and turning novel, full of secrets that continue to the very end. Having a reporter as the main character leads to many questions being raised throughout.

This novel feels very claustrophobic, in a good way though. You start off right in the middle of an emergency situation, and that's just the start of a real roller coaster ride.

I love a good caper novel, and this features all of the best attributes. It’s got snappy patter, compelling characters, a vintage feel, and a moody location.

Told through the entries of a journal, this book takes you back in time to the era of the sailing ship. It is very atmospheric and detailed.

I had a lot of fun reading this, although it went by very quickly. It’s very worthy of the space opera name.

This is a wonderful book for auto racing fans. There are so many pictures of races and the Shelby American program, and since the author was the official Shelby photographer almost all of the images are super crisp.

This was a massively detailed look at an relatively unknown figure in the history of the west. Since I’m a big fan of trains, that part of the book is the best for me

A speculative fiction using a more extreme version of the current worldwide situation, that weaves in a highly immersive version of VR. I really liked the arcade style of game world that the characters were in and want to follow what happens next.

False Light provides an even-handed look, although fictional, at modern social media, along with an engrossing sense suspense. With a diverse cast of characters, it is a tremendous read.

This is a world in which both the Civil War and the Louisiana Purchase hasn’t happened, and magical items abound. My oh my what a wild ride. Dramatic imagery and dangerous situations throughout.

A thoughtful, tense, pulsating look at the reclusive author J.D Salinger during World War II. My personal favorite is definitely the chapter set in the Stork Club, all of the people involved Salinger, Oona O’Neill, Frank Costello, Herman Melville, and the grand master of the scene Walter Winchell. I would love to read an entire book on just that.

This is an amazingly detailed look at perhaps one of the deadliest operations in World War II. The events behind the scenes were long kept secret and Canadian historian James O’Keefe searched through mounds of documents to find the truth.

Space the place where everybody wants to go. Whether it be to the moon or Mars, it’s the biggest thing there is. This book is both a look back at the history of space travel and a look at the possible future, and it does it with aplomb.

A quick but taut thriller, featuring a diverse cast that moves at a mile a minute. It starts relatively normal for a book dealing with an assassin, but then we met up with villains that wouldn’t be out of place in Spider-man. And it just gets better.

Not so much as a novel, but more like snapshots into the life of Marilyn Monroe. The reader traipses lyrically through her upbringing and her rise to stardom.

When one hears about a book about a teenager with magical abilities, they will be inevitably compared to Harry Potter. But this is very different than the boy who lived, it has more in common with the MCU, full of action and drama and the usual teenage characteristics.
