Aide memoir: Book One of 3-book series. Paris, 1919, Peace conference going on in Paris. Ex-RFC pilot James "Max" Maxted investigates his father's "accidental" death and comes up with murder. There are other murders too. His father was also trying to raise a large sum of money, supposedly to provide for a life with him and his mistress. Max is appointed Executor of his father's estate, but does not inherit anything as he is the second son. Max is assisted in his investigations by his mechanic from the war, Sam. It was their plan to open a flying school in Britain after the War.
Aide memoir: Excellent book. Focuses on the first half of the 20th century, but gives plenty of earlier stories. Highly recommend.
Aide memoir: Myron Bolitar, sports agency owner, tracks down killer of Brenda Slaughter's father. Again the guilty party is someone who didn't feature much except to show cooperation.
Aide memoir: this one very dark. Some murders solved and some not (this leads to The Black Rose and Sir George Holley). The murders of Enrico Costanza and his chauffer starts it all. Excellent.
Aide memoir: Relationships and actions in childhood and into early 20's and their effects on adults' lives. Sad.
Aide memoir: Maisie Dobbs. Her last case before closing the business and travelling to India.Murder of two Indian women. Poignant.
Aide memoire: second in the detective Joe Sandilands series. Set in Simla, India, in the early 1920's. Russian opera singer shot dead, a similar killing to onethe year before. Excellent scene-setting.
Aide memoire: Erlendur does not feature in this one. The crime is solved by Elinborg. A rapist is murdered by a victim's half brother.
Aide memoire: Commissario Brunetti and Ispettore Vianello investigate the murder of an usher at the Courthouse. Also Vianello's aunt has become obsessed with horoscopes.
Lily and fugitive Rosaleen run awayfrom her home in Georgia. Novel takes place in the mid-1960's. They reach a small town where Lily finds traces of her long-dead mother. When Lily was 4 years old, she killed her mother in a gun accident. The pair find refuge on a bee farm run by black sisters. Very inventive, original plot. Excellent.
Aide memoire:My book has author as Sir Meyrick Hewlett. He was there as a Consul from 1898to 1935. His love of China shows through and he spent lots of time in his early years preventing civil war between various war lords.
A Commissario Guido Brunetti murder mystery pub. in 1999. Brunetti's wife throws rock through the window of a travel agency which arranges sex tours for men to the Far East (Thailand). License holder of the agency is murdered: all to do with selling out-of-date etc. meds to third world countries.
Westerners and Afghans running a coffee shop/restaurant in Kabul. Karzai is in office. Book fullof clichés but author gives us a heart-warming book with characters full of personality.
Aide memoire: Satanic rituals in Florence area. Michele Ferrara series. Confusing at first because other depts. are involved in solving the crime too.
Aide memoire: Takes place in Luxembourg and Paris mostly. Double and triple cons about huge sum stolen from an arms dealer Kate (ex-Cia) and husband Dexter (who stole the money) . Bill and Julia (ex-FBI) on their trail and part of the con. The book doesn't start cooking til halfway through.
aide memoire: an excellent but very very dark and grim thriller published in Britain 2006. Monika and Maj-Britt both severely physchologically damaged people whose stories eventually come together. Ends on a hopeful note.
Aide memoire:Excellent novel. There are 2 strands. One: Elsa Beazley and her husband and her sister do field work on island in 1914. Two: Dr. Greer Farraday on island early 1970's. Gives latest thinking on history, events and natives.
Slow to get going but in the end it all comes together. 2 old cases of missing young people and one current suicide. Excellent.

A profound and very moving novel about 2 boys, half brothers, in 1970's Afghanistan. During Taliban rule, Amir goes back to Afghanistan to seek redemption for his betrayal of Hassan many years before.

Very readable. An excellent book. I hadn't read much about Churchill before, but this book filled the gaps.

Read in Nov. 2013. A Maisie Dobbs novel. Eddie, a simple and slow man, is murdered. Maisie reaches an agreement with her boyfriend. Excellent.
Read Nov. 2013. Sequel to The Eight. A chess set which confers unlimited power. Vartan (White King) and Xie (Black Queen and daughter of Cat and Alexander Solarin from The Eight) complete the quest by their union. Not as good as The Eight. The sections devoted to the past not as absorbing as in The Eight.
Murder,suicide, homosexuality and prostitution involving an aristocratic family in Victorian London. Inspector Pitt was not able to prove all of it, but society will judge the family. Excellent.
I read this book sometime ago.A middle class Indian detective solving a murder mystery. Excellent.
