I wasn't sure I'd like this book - 13 wealthy-ish women and a diamond necklace - but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the camaraderie of the women, their kindess to each other and others in their community, and the fun they had (are having) with Jewelia - too cute. I'd love to have them as friends, and I'd also love to live Ventura, CA, a town I visited a couple of years ago on a press trip.
I've been a fan of Elizabeth Berg since reading Open House during my own divorce eight years ago. Home Safe is a heartwarming story of a 59-year-old woman coming to terms with the death of her husband, her inability to write, and the amazing gift her husband left for her. Helen's journey is a real-life journey. I thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her, first page to last.
A wonderful first book, one of the best books I've read lately. Fay is an extremely accomplished writer with an amazing ability to get every word just right. Her characters are real people with whom we can sympathize, and her dialogue pulls no punches. Her writer's voice is unique and assured. More please!
I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written, poignant novel of a young woman's journey to hopefully-ever-after. I work in a library and was drawn to the book by the cover art and the back cover promo by Elinor Lipman, one of my favorite writers. I would definitely read another book by Frances Norris, but sadly BPS seems to be her only published novel to date.
