This book was just okay. There were things I liked, and things I didn't like. That said, I haven't decided whether I will read the rest of the series just yet.
Totally fell out of love with this series after this book. It was so boring! Ash is dull, I don't know what Meghan sees in him. She's pretty dull, though, too. I just don't really care what happens to any of them anymore. The best thing in this series is the banter between Ash and Puck, but even that is, well, dull!
Didn't get as into this one as the first, but I love how the characters are developing!
I really enjoyed the depth of the main character, Valerie. Through the author's descriptions, I was able to fully empathize with her. I just found myself getting bored in parts - possibly I've been reading too many YA books and need to get out of this genre for a bit.
Just finished this book today, and I honestly can't believe it was that good! I would never have chosen to even read this book if it wasn't chosen for my book club by someone else, but once I got into it, I could barely put it down. Some real tear jerking moments, and some very uplifting moments. Really wonderful, I'll be recommending it to everyone!
Ugh, I don't know why I keep reading these books. Sometimes, I guess I need something quick and familiar, but I'm getting tired of Stephanie, Lula, and even Ranger. I still like Morelli, and even Grandma Mazur, but the plot of each successive book is pretty much interchangeable with all the others. Not sure I will continue reading this series, because it's just going NOWHERE!!!
A good book, very interesting at times. I found I was riveted during the first half, especially by the descriptions of foot binding, but had a hard time getting through the last half. Things slowed down, and the language became repetitive.
Wow, I really enjoyed this book, way more than I thought I would! I admit that the first bit was a bit tough going, I had a hard time keeping all the politics straight, but once I was through the first few chapters, I was thoroughly absorbed. I just really loved all the characters!
Once upon a time, when I was in high school, a group of friends and I decided that we could write a bodice-ripper better than any Harlequin. One girl started it, another added more on, we passed the paper back and forth between classes, and once everyone had had their turn, the end result was something... well, stupid, to be honest. It was only funny to us, and not worthy to show to anyone outside our little group. That's what this "book" (and I use that term very loosely) reminds me of, a joke that only the writer(s) would understand. Now normally I wouldn't write such a scathing review, but even though I got this "book" for free, I feel ripped off, and I wouldn't want anyone else to make the same mistake. I requested this "book" because the title caught my eye and it sounded like a fun read, but after 11 pages, I couldn't stand to waste my time any further.

Well, I like the characters in this book, but I have to say the plot was a little bit boring. I did appreciate getting some background info on the Cabals and the Coven, and there were a couple of surprises, but nothing major, nothing to make this book memorable. Hopefully the next in the series will have a bit more oomph to it.
When I first saw this book and read the cover, I thought the premise just wasn't for me - a bit too sci-fi, I guess. My 7 year-old daughter, however, was enthralled with the idea of a cyborg Cinderella. After seeing decent reviews, I picked up the hard cover version for $5.99, and was pleasantly surprised. The characters were well-drawn, and the pacing was pretty good, and while it didn't end up being one of my favorites, it is still worth a read and I am definitely excited to see where this series leads.
Um, not sure really what I felt about this novel. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it, either. I think the pacing was off. Sometimes I'd get really bored, and just annoyed with the main character - her thoughts were very repetitive. And then there were times where I could barely stop reading. The whole fairy tale obsession thing didn't make much sense to me, either. I don't know, maybe the best description for this book is "weird".
Booooooooring! 'Nuff said. Don't read it, you'll lose hours or your life that you'll never get back, and you'll be turned right off this series.
It was good, but honestly, I was expecting more from all the hype. I almost gave up on it in the beginning because I found that I wasn't emotionally involved with any of the characters. Anyway, I'm glad I stuck it out until the end. There were some interesting bits and parts that had me laughing out loud, but it wasn't the type of book that I can give a five star rating to.
Really devoured this book, I truly enjoyed it! Saba is a memorable character, and I can't wait to see what happens in the second installment.
This was a great read for me because I have a 10 year old son with Asperger's. Although he is not exactly like the character in the book, there are a lot of similarities. One passage stands out in my mind, where the protagonist's one friend says, "They have dessert out on the lawn!" and she replies, "Why would they put the food on the grass?" It is totally something my son would say, and it made me laugh! There were some really sad moments, as well, making me shed a few tears. All in all, a great read that will hopefully lead to better understanding of invisible disabilities.
Good book, lots of fun! Loved how the characters are being developed (Elena is awesome!) and love how new characters are being introduced. It was a bit long in parts, which is why I didn't give it a higher rating. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series, but not right now - I need a little break before I continue!
This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein (The Dark Endeavor Chronicles Series) by Kenneth Oppel
Wow, what a thrill! I took my time with this book, as I had a bunch of others on the go as well, but I am sure glad I stuck with it! Twists that had me gasping, and the ending caught me by surprise! I loved that Victor was so flawed, too - he seemed very true to what I remember of Mary Shelley's character. Can't wait for the movie, I just hope they don't muck it up!
This was a really cute book! When I first started reading it, I wasn't really sure if I would like it - it seemed a bit too silly, even for a YA book, but as I got further into it, the main character won me over completely. Not only that, but the book actually deals with a complex issue, proving once again that you can't judge a book on the first couple of chapters. I'm glad I continued reading through to the end!
I didn't like this one as much as Lament, and I guess the reason would be Nuala's character. I just didn't like her, and I didn't like James falling for her, and seeing as she's one of two (well, three, if you count Dee's text messages) narrators in the book, then I couldn't really like the book. It's too bad, because I LOVE James, he's exactly the type of guy I'd want to hang out with if I was sixteen again. He brings my rating up from 2.5 to a 3.
A bit like "Divergent" and a bit like "Matched", but what makes this novel stand out are the characters. I really enjoyed Lena (she reminds me of myself except I can't run!) and Alex, and especially Hana - I thought they were all quite real. Very excited to read the next instalment.
Just finished this book and I'm a bit torn. I was very much involved at the beginning of the story, then felt the pace slow down in the middle. And the ending? Good, but again didn't have quite the momentum of the start. This was one of the first books I read on my Kobo, so I think the novelty of the medium is one of the things that kept me reading straight through to the end.
A sweet book, lovely characters, wonderful writing.
Finally, I finished this book! It took me three tries, but I quite enjoyed it. It is different than any western I've ever read (and I haven't read one in a loooooong time) and I appreciated the author's wit. There are definitely some humorous parts, especially in the beginning, and some disgusting parts, but the characters are what make the story.
Sometimes I need an easy read, and that's what the Stephanie Plum series is for me. Quick, easy, instant gratification. I haven't read them all, but I'm starting to forget which ones I have read, that's how interchangeable they are. That said, I still get a kick out of Lula and Grandma, and even Connie and Vinnie are starting to step it up a notch.
A really fantastic book, it gripped me from the first page! My only gripe is with the several typos I noticed. The characters seemed truly authentic. I am impressed with how the author dealt with such a disturbing topic in a way that could keep me reading, although at times it was difficult.
A really wonderful book, it made me want to see Masada for myself!
I really enjoyed this book! I loved how the author was able to describe the city so I felt like I was right there.
