I am a huge fan of Molly Harper's work generally, but the protagonist in this story was so off-putting, I had trouble getting into the story. She was rude, self-centered, and capricious, and I had a hard time sympathizing with her or rooting for her. Also, the timing of the whole story seemed rushed, and I felt like some of the conflicts (e.g. her resentment towards her father, the fight with the love interest) were resolved overly quickly and didn't feel at all earned. I'll give the next book in the series a try, but I'm pretty bummed out by how little I enjoyed this one.

Also, we don't call them "bodegas" in Chicago.
