Very realistic portrayal of the struggle Annie faces between pursuing art, and being accepted in her Amish family and community. Equally compelling his her "Englisher" friend Louisa's search for meaning as Annie's guest, her Amish friend Esther's pain at being shunned when she embraces Christian beliefs contrary to the Amish. An abusive husband is portrayed with realism and compassion. The mystery in the story keeps the pages turning. All three books in this series are excellent.
realistic look at stresses on a contemporary marriage in the 90's. Sierra Madrid is angry at her husband, and feels disconnected from her religious upbringing. Her mother gives her a journal and quilt from an ancestor who emigrated on the Oregon trail. the story of how each woman negotiates the difficulties in their lives and find their faith is told in tandem.
quick read about Lois, a young woman and her relationships through the years of WW2. Similar to Cazelet Chronicles, though does not match up to writing style.
