The Winter of Our Discontent was another of example of Steinbeck's genius. Steinbeck's writing in this book makes the reader feel the surface appreciation of being content with what you have, yet Ethan's underlining discontent. This book is still relevant, especially in this time of economic crisis.
I loved this book. I knew nothing about mountain climbing, but finished this book with awe for participates in this activity and empathy for the loved ones. Archer's writing is as usual, it keeps you on the edge of your seat...can't read fast enough...more, more...finished. Now I can breathe!
I'm not sure what I expected...perhaps it should have had a different title. The storyline is more about life with a partner with mental illness and friendship than it is "the marrige plot".
I was very dissapointed reading this after reading middlesex where there was so much research and original thought put into the story.

I love the way Steve Berry combines fiction with history. This keeps the reader on his/her toes for what is real and what isn't. It is well written, creative and clever.

This was a wonderful read. It is a great remainder of youthful idealism, consequences and the depth of love and dedication of family.
