Raw, brutally honest, pure, and so wonderfully innocent.
Throughout the misery of his life, you can feel the author's desperate need and longing for someone to love him.
It's a heartbreaking and beautiful book that should be taught in Moroccan high schools instead of a certain... less interesting autobiography.

One of those books that completely shatters your perspection of reality.
Recommended read for moroccans everywhere.

It's amazing how something written more than 1800 years ago (by a roman emperor no less), could be this deeply relatable.
"Or have I been made for this, to lie in the bed-clothes and keep myself warm?- But this is more pleasant.- Dost thou exist then to take thy pleasure, and not at all for action or exertion? Dost thou not see the little plants, the little birds, the ants, the spiders, the bees working together to put in order their several parts of the universe? And art thou unwilling to do the work of a human being, and dost thou not make haste to do that which is according to thy nature?"
I feel like he wrote that for me.
I wish more was known about his politics and the way he governed. One of my all time heroes.

Killing Hope: U.S. Military and C.I.A. Interventions Since World War II--Updated Through 2003 by William Blum
Great book.
The chapter about Morocco is a little dubious, as the events describings Dlimi's "accident" are based on an eyewitness that was in another continent at the time. But overall the USA's involvement as well as Morocco's foreign policy towards the US were spot on.

I have no words.
This is the most haunting piece of literature I have ever read.
I don't think I'll ever forget this book.

I can't remember the last time I was so engrossed in a book.
I was physically incapable of putting it down for the past 5 hours.
Thank you for this wonderful gift.

BUT.
It was worth the wait. the way he wrote about the travel was beautiful. The descriptions of the center of the galaxy, the harbor, the sea, and the gentle hosts who made sure their guests were comfortable. The idea that there is a message hidden inside universal numbers. It was just so beautifuly written. Ellie, who up until this point felt hollow, was given depth and for the first time we actually got to know the real her.
I've listened to lectures of Carl Sagan before and I enjoyed them a lot. I'm glad I gave this book a chance.
Incredibly entertaining to read (where did my afternoon go?)
Very talented author.
