I was super excited when I saw this title. I want so much to be able to give it 5 stars. But I can't. It really deserves a 2.5 because of glaring problems in the storyline. There is a parallel short story running at the same time that is quite honestly confusing. The plot progresses as if the reader knows information about characters, but we really don't. The ending is just a big ole mess.

That being said, the world is one I am interested in. The art is beautiful, and the diversity is a joy to see. I will be looking for more in this series, and hoping for a progression in the writing.
This is an interesting book that doesn't take into account the fact that some people with one type of allergy may also have other allergies - ones that specifically prevent them from using some of the remedies suggested in this book.
This book was great. The illustrations were uniform, but also accentuated the differences of each woman's contributions. There is just enough information about each women to be an accurate mini-biography while still encouraging self study for a reader.
A little kitchsy but enjoyable. It genuinely had some laugh out load moments about what adults should do in situations, and also had a few pieces of good advice, dressed up as humor.
Very interesting writing style. You could identify with each main character and their voice. I can't remember a point where something seemed unclear or disjointed. That in itself says a lot...
This was a really well though out introduction to Hal Jordan. As a novice to Green Lantern, this storyline helped me get into the meat of what exactly is going on.
It was a cute story, but it wasn't executed very well. I am used to expecting more from my YA lit so maybe I am just being a little hard on this book. The title seems out of place as there are no rules or helpful "tips" from Jessica during the story.

There is a love story that seemed to be missing some of the steps to get to love, but oh well. Again, YA Lit.

So, I am giving this a three, because I didn't feel tortured while reading it, but I also didn't immediately feel a need to recommend it to everyone I know who reads. And I plan to finish the others if for no other reason that I need to know what the series reads like in order to be more effective at recommending books at my job. That said, I don't think it is a work of art, and there are so many problems with character development, dialogue, and everything else. I am hoping that the later books get better, since this is obviously a starter.
This last book didn't live up to my expectations from the other three in the series. I have had a while to process, and I think it was a fine ending. Knowing what happens to everyone involved is ok. Seeing that more people are still developing 'powers' that others don't have can give you a lot of imagination fodder. Gabriel defeating the Trademaster is a bit of a let down though, because it sets the world up to be one where bad things can be defeated, and the purpose of all the others seemed to focus on having hope even though there is evil/bad out in the world. The overrunning theme of hope is what kept me coming back, and in a few paragraphs that was lessened IMO. But I also have to remember that if I want things to happen a certain way, I should probably write a book myself. :) The writing style was consistent and I liked having an ending after wondering for so long what laid in the future for everyone.
I am rating this a 3, even though as far as content goes, it is most definitely a 4 or a 5, even. The discussion of Butler's use of gender, race, religion, and social constructs in her writing is very well thought out and an interesting conversation to have.

The 3 is strictly for the glaring mistakes in the text. At least once in each chapter, I was ripped out of the discourse by a word that was obviously incorrect either in spelling or usage. I would have hoped that the book would have a better/more thorough editor.

The book is recommended for the discussion, but maybe a future edition will have some errors corrected.
The writing was very well done and the imagery and description were amazing.

My problem was that the book was all over the place IMO. I never knew when the characters were going to behave positively or negatively to each other and I left the book without a clear understanding of what it was the author was trying to accomplish or convey.
