I felt that there were too many characters and sub stories in the novel; however, I thought that both the characters and subplots were well developed. "Winter Rose" was a good read but it seemed a little long. I had a hard time finishing it and took me longer to read it than it should have. It was frustrating to have all the characters interconnected but separated by a lack of knowledge. I just kept thinking to myself, "just tell him/her what is on your mind!" But alas, that would not have made the story lines quite as interesting. Even thought the novel seemed to drag in some areas, it was packed with all kinds of plots and twists and sub stories. I didn't care much for the third party ending. After being immersed in the midst of all these characters that you come to love and hate and just want to slap for their stupidity, you get thrust to the sidelines at the end. Despite this, I really did enjoy this novel to others that wouldn't mind a VERRY long soak in t he tub. I am looking forward to reading novels my Jennifer Donnelly.
