I passed this topic on the list a couple of times before the name clicked. Brilliant name for an LT group!

Great episode, but a tragic ending.

Definitely my favorite episode of The Twilight Zone. Obviously, Rod Serling believed a little irony was good for you. So, what about your favorite books and authors?

my most favorite book is i know this much is true by wally lamb- the first time i read it i finished it in three days- i've read practically everything by stephen king - there are so many books and authors to think about that it just boggles the mind

My secret fear is that I will end up like Mr. Beamis. Is it Beamis or Bemis?

Bemis, according to the cast list for the episode.

Someone on the Dickens list was sheepish about reading David Copperfield in public. That's what got Mr. Bemis fired as a bank teller!

Hi, great idea for a group! What happened to Henry Bemis still gives me the cold sweats. Hi, Sandydog1 ~ I'm not stalking you, I swear! :)

Storeetllr, did we meet somewhere? I stroll through a lot of LT groups almost every night it seems. I should be reading instead! But I do find some real prizes for my TBR list.

I've a bit of trouble relating to poor Henry, at least in a work setting. I work with many hundreds of others and it surprises me to see so much as a newspaper in the cafeteria these days. Things are so hectic!

The only time I seem to get any "reading" done is with my audiobooks during the morning commute.

Anyway, of all the organizations I belong to, I am proud to be a card-carrying member of the Henry Bemis Society.

Heh, it was me on one of the other groups who was a bit sheepish about not realizing that Bemis was reading Copperfield when he got fired. :)

I know what you mean about not having enough time to read as much as you want. I think that was one of the points of that Twilight Zone episode ~ someone like Henry Bemis, who took the time to read ~ was so out of step with the rest of the hustle-bustle world. It's gotten even worse since that episode aired (what? in the 1960s?). Sad, really ~ almost no one in my office cares to discuss books, but everyone seems to know what happened last night on "Dancing with the Stars" or "Survivor." *shuddering*

Or God forbid, "IDOL"!!!

Yes, dumbed-down and hectic. That's why I'm on a healthy dose of the classics now. Six years of higher education and I had barely touched anything literary or cultural.

I found this little group when someone posted this thread in another group. I have this Twilight Zone episode saved. It's so amazing, so sad, so....frustrating!
