Kindle Cover

After six days of spending every free moment on Kindle...I think it's brilliant!
However, I have to find fault in one particular area: the cover. The design is shabby and quite unworkable, for me anyway. The elastic usually presses on the page turner thingy which is frustrating. The two corners on the left side of the inside back are not designed to efficiently hold it in place.
Has anyone "jury-rigged" (jerry-rigged?) the cover in any way with any success? I'm thinking of velcro inserts as a possibility...or simply finding some sort of alternate cover. I like the quality of the material, both inside and outside, and it certainly is protective...but just not up to Amazon's standards, imho. Thoughts??? Ideas??? Miracles??? Jeff...are you out there? *g*

A lot of people have dispensed with the plastic tab and gone with velcro. I did it and I'm happy with it.

Another important thing is to put some sort of 'bump' on the inside cover so the cover won't mash on the selector wheel. I use a self-sticking rubber bumper, like what you might affix to a flowerpot to keep it from scratching the table.

I went ahead and purchased the leather M-Edge Kindle cover. The original cover simply didn't hold my Kindle securely while I was reading. I was one of the unlucky ones whose tab thingie just didn't work, no way, no how.

The new M-Edge cover arrived yesterday and it is GREAT! It is easy to put it on, and hold the Kindle very securely.

My problem is that the cover seems to pull off the back "door" that covers the battery about 2 or 3 times per week. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks, k4k

Having the door pull out like that is as risk of using the plastic tab, it's not a very good design. If you use velcro instead (and put the velcro on the white plastic part of the Kindle, not the gray rubbery door) it will solve the problem.

I'd seriously recommend that you break off the tab and use velcro instead, because if it's pulling off the door, you're at risk of having your Kindle fall out of the cover at any moment.

I used to have the first edition vinyl M-Edge cover, I didn't like it because the vinyl squeaked, very annoying. It also smelled funny. I understand that M-Edge now has a leather cover. Does anybody have one? Does it squeak? Does it smell?

krazy4katz,

That sounds like a defective battery cover. When I need to access my memory card, or reset button under there, I can hardly get my cover off. So it surprises me that yours comes off so easily!

I have no problems with my cover. Once I figured out how to seat it in there correctly, it stays and doesn't slip or anything no matter how I hold it. I love it! It's too bad so many people are having such problems, though. It sounds like they may not all be made exactly the same.

I had also had a problem with the back cover coming in when I used the original cover and the Kindle was always falling out. The elastic was also getting very loose.

I just recently got the M-edge case and absolutely love it. The interior is suede and I haven't noticed any smells and definitely no squeeking. It's securely holds the Kindle with loops around all 4 sides. The loop in the upper right corner has elastic so can easily slip off to use the power/wireless buttons. It's also a lot slimmer than the original cover.

IntrinsiclyMe,
I am glad to hear you like the M-edge cover as I just ordered one. I think the way the kindle cover attaches to a removable panel was just poor design. I have not really had many problems with it but it annoys me that such a design decision was made. Anyway I thought with the M-edge I would also have a place to stick a piece of paper or a biz card if needed.

You will love the M-Edge cover! Securely holds your Kindle, and has space for cards and a pen.
