I started watching Love Hina and it's nowhere near as sleazy as I remember it to be. Boy has Anime changed, compared to things like Kanokon this is positively innocent, no wonder Love Hina maintained its PG rating all these years!

And Keitaro is a likable loser, not annoying at all.

I've started watching the recent remake of Doctor Who from the beginning. I've seen recent episodes, and I saw the series premiere, but I hadn't seen any intervening stuff, so I was kind of lost. However, I do preffer Tennant to Eccleston (or whatever his name was). Eccleston portrayed the Doctor as almost a stereotyped action hero, whereas Tennant's doctor comes off as more of a nerdy James Bond.

I've also been watching season 1 of Burn Notice, which I absolutely love.

7Jakeofalltrades

My word!

The Rome Season 1 marathon was a tad too much for me, I left after the incest started happening. That dirty Octavian... Oh well, as my old seedy friend used to say, "incest is best, it's a game the whole family can play!"

*shudders after being confronted with this after seeing the innocent My Neighbour Totoro with my brother*

I finished watching Angel last Wednesday, so I've started in on Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip. I've seen about half of it, but I completely lost track of it after the midseason break. The timeslot must've shifted, and if there was any advertising for it I completely missed it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes out.

I am so glad the SciFi Channel has started showing StarTrek TNG again on Monday nights! The only problem is that it starts at 7. I really need for it to start later. If anyone has influence with the SciFi Channel, would you please suggest that it begin at 9? I would be most appreciative. :)

21MrAndrew
Jul 5, 2008, 10:56 pm

If you move to the west coast, wouldn't that make it start at 9 instead?

This morning SciFi was on in the background, and i overheard a phrase from Voyager that was somewhat unexpected, and yet appropriate for the GD:

"Get that cheese to the sick bay. The doctor will want to take a look immediately."

22GeorgiaDawn
Jul 5, 2008, 10:59 pm

MrAndrew - As much as I love seeing Jean-Luc, I have no immediate plans to move to the West Coast. Also, when you factor in the time zones it would still be on at 7 there. I'm assuming the schedule is the same, but I'd have to check with JPB to be sure. I can't win! Of course, there's always TiVo!

24maggie1944
Jul 5, 2008, 11:16 pm

Actually, when the network says 9 pm it is 6 pm on the left coast. I watch CNN all the time and I am quite accustomed to moving stuff ahead in my head, I think. So 8 pm is 5 pm. And I think I go to bed early, too. Lets see 5 am (when my baby arrives) is really 8 am, so that's not so bad, eh.

Hm. I was ~supposed~ to be watching The Tudors, but went over to mates place instead and watched the Christmas Special episode for Dr Who, with Kylie Minogue in it.

I have to say - the amount of cheese in Dr Who just puts me off. Truly, I hate cheese of the non-edible kind.

Not a big Dr Who fan here. Great concept, too annoying most of the time. Loved it as a kid though.

I like Eureka but I am not committed to it - even for me it can be silly (and I've seen the entire series of Roswell, Babylon 5, and Sliders). We're halfway through the third season of "Weeds" on dvd. We're also watching "Firefly". Thanks to Tivo we discovered this ridiculous, unabashed, space cowboy series being shown on Universal HD. Since it only lasted one season, it isn't too much of a commitment. I think they were showing it on SciFi also. Without Battlestar, maybe we got a little desperate.

36MrsLee

Saw part of Southland Tales this past weekend. Definitely not for everyone, but a funny cast (John Larroquette, Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), the guy who played the Grand Negus in Deep Space Nine).

I may recommend it to my college-age son as I think he will see the dark humor in it, but it really isn't for every one.

My husband and I are re-watching Buffy while our daughter is at camp. When she returns, on the 11th, we will continue with the family re-watching of BSG 3rd season.

After that, we'll have to figure something out. I may re-re-watch the beginning of Buffy with her so she can catch up with her dad and me, so we can do a family re-watch.

Things get confusing when your child goes to camp for 4 weeks.

I did spend most of the time from June 23rd to July 6th watching Wimbledon.

My friend got suckered at JB for the first season of MacGyver as well so I watched an episode for the first time in over 10 years. It was hilarious! I really need to watch some more.

I've been dying to get Series 1 and 2 of Life On Mars because it was always on when I wasn't home and Australia has yet to experience the joys of TiVO (though we're getting it later this year apparently). As for My Fair Lady, it was neer a great film, but my friend is in a local production of Pygmalion later this year so I think I may have to go back and watch both it and Pygmalion in the coming weeks.

I've been re-watching the Christopher Eccleston Doctor Who recently and we've just become addicted to Dexter in my house. I also recently discovered that Dawn French's Muder Most Horrid has become available on DVD in the UK so I'm ordering it because I love Dawn French and this show just makes me laugh so much that I can't wait for it to be released here.

I'm actually watching "classic" Doctor Whos. I started with the last few Tom Baker episodes and have worked my way up to the second last season with Sylvester McCoy. Most of them I haven't seen since original broadcast in the 80's. I like McCoy's Doctor, but some of the writing ...

What's interesting is catching things which seem to be referenced in the new series, intentionally or unintentionally. For example, Peter Davison's Dalek episode was set partially on Canary Wharf when it was still old warehouses ... where David Tennant's Cybermen/Dalek battle was.

I'm looking forward to seeing "Curse of Fenric" again which stands out in my mind as a good McCoy episode, will be interesting to see if the 2008 me agrees with the 1989 me.

And how can people NOT like firefly? Your taste is all in your mouth :).

Thanks for this reminder--I would have hated to miss Mad Men. It is brilliant.

I watch a lot of TV, so will chime in on the love for Burn Notice, Firefly (worst series cancellation decision since Homefront), BSG, Dr. Who, Torchwood, Dexter, Eureka, and Dead Like Me. I really need to get Babylon 5 on DVD; I loved that series but haven't seen it since it originally aired.

I also watch reality shows--Big Brother, The Next Food Network Star, Design Star, Project Runway, Greatest American Dog. Who knew that sweet little Elvis would turn out to be a warrior? Bad dog!

And, just to be able to keep sane in the USA, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. And South Park. "Butters, what's wrong?" "Oh, I'm just a little bi-curious, Mom!"
