Sell me on Peter Hamilton's Void trilogy

I've read pretty much everything else he's written, but the previous Commonwealth Saga didn't really grab me, and it took me forever to finish it.

A few too many characters, I'd say, some of whom I did not care about at all.

How's his latest work in comparison? Is it worth reading?

Its the Commonwealth Universe. Many characters carry over: Paula Mayo, Troblum, Marius. It's definitely Hard SciFi/ Space Opera. Like Judas Unchained and Pandora's Star these are massive tomes.

While I liked it...you may not. I recommend it in general, but not to you.

I want to like it but I'm bogged down halfway through The Temporal Void. Much the same happened on the previous saga, he doesn't half write HUGE stories. But I did go back and started the Commonwealth Saga again, suddenly the story "gelled" and I thoughly enjoyed all three books. Perseverance is the answer to Hamilton's tomes.

I really liked Pandora/Judas, and liked the first two VOID books a bit less, so you may be disappointed. Some people liked the parallel, pseudo-medieval (sp?) story better than the main space opera. I thought they complemented each other fairly well.

Nevertheless, I may take a break from Hamilton after finishing his Confederation series (almost done with The Neutronium Alchemist), despite Evolutionary Void beckoning me from the to-be-read pile.

You have more patience than I do. The Commonwealth Saga, with too many characters, too many pages, and gross misuse of commas, convinced me I won't be reading any of his work in the future. It sounds harsh, but I'm not getting any younger!

I don't know what you, are talking about. I never, noticed any problem with, commas.

I'm not going to try "selling" it until it's finished, and I'm waiting for the 3rd volume in paperback. I do like his sprawling style -- but it all may or may not come together in the end. This is particularly the case for this series, which contains two (so far) separate settings and plots.
