Hi Tamara. I'm glad to see that you decided to go ahead with your mini readathon. I missed the last due to work, but I am here to cheer you on for this one and maybe get some reading done myself.
I hope to finish The Wars of the Roses by Desmond Seward which I've been working on for over two weeks now. I also have The Master by Colm Toibin and Darkness, Take My Hand by Dennis Lehane to read. I'm so excited and have been looking forward to this all week.

No readathon for me, I have two choir rehearsals today, plus a potluck in between. Not much time to read.

Bouncing in to cheer all readers on. I may join this afternoon but I have a bunch of errands to run first.

1200 update. I'm progressing well on Seward's book. We are well into Richard III's reign and there are conspiracies everywhere!
How's your reading going, Tamara?

I won't do a readathon but I am planning on a nice afternoon at Starbucks. I will spend a couple of hours drinking coffee, surrounded by the coffee smell, watching it rain, and reading Mists of Avalon for my book club. I am about half way through this book and like it, but don't really love it. I do find its point-of-view of interest and can understand how back in the day it was revolutionary. All that pro woman stuff must have been truly revolutionary. It will be a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
9lindapanzo
This morning, I spent an hour or so at Starbucks, reading Zachary Taylor, a bio of the president, by John S.D. Eisenhower. I'm home now and will continue on with it. I should finish it today and then move on to the Laura Childs mystery, Tragic Magic.
10rebeccanyc
Without knowing it, I participated in a readathon by spending the morning finishing The Green House by Mario Vargas Llosa, one of my favorite authors but, alas, an ultimately puzzling work.
11leperdbunny
Just in case anyone was wondering I am going from 12-9 EST- checking in every hour. :)
>8 benitastrnad: I'm jealous! I love being at bookstores and Starbucks to enjoy fresh coffee smell! Glad you are enjoying Mists of Avalon.
>9 lindapanzo: Happy Reading!
>10 rebeccanyc: Yay for finishing a book!
Alas, I did not get much reading done this past hour due to the puppy and had to stop for a snack. I'm ready though this hour to knock out some more of March. It is a lot more graphic than I was expecting.

1300 update. Well, the Battle of Bosworth is over and Henry Tudor is now Henry VII, but not undisputed. There are still conspiracies brewing. It's funny knowing the outcome of all this, but I still find the narrative exciting. Desmond's doing a great job.
All you other readers sound like you are really enjoying the day with a good book anyway.
>7 leperdbunny: I think that you will enjoy it, Tamara. It starts a little slow, but gets better as you go along.

Good luck with the readathon! I enjoyed last week's very much, but, alas, today is devoted to yard work. Gotta make hay while the sun shines...so to speak. No hay here, but more than our fair share of leaves!
I may join in later this afternoon when my body gives out. I want to get some more reading done in The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny.

Thanks for stopping by Mark and Donna- hopefully you'll get to enjoy some reading later Donna!
Velma- Now Young Mr. March is trying to court the lovely future Mrs. March. Geraldine Books is doing a wonderful job humanizing and detailing Mr. March's thought processes and personality. He was such a hollow character in Little Women so this is mighty refreshing. I guess I didn't expect the amount of details with abolition/slavery issues. Very interesting stories.

Tamara, that book sounds like a good one and I just happen to have it in my enormous to read library. I think that I will move it up the stack.
I've finished The Wars of the Roses and I found it very satisfying, however, my back has gotten very stiff so I need a little stretching and exercise before I continue with Toibin's novel.

Hey Tamara! Just discovered your readathon and I will certainly take part in it this afternoon after the Browns beat Jets. We've had a huge Chinese Buffet for Lunch this afteroon so I won't need to cook a big dinner. I'll be switching off between Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and The Lacuna. Have fun!
18leperdbunny
Lynda- I read The Lacuna A few months back- it was a very good novel- I hope you enjoy!!!
Velma, I have been tempted to take the puppys for a walk but its quite cold outside so I keep waffling. . :p

Yes, I have been tempted several times by The Lacuna. Maybe next month?
I didn't accomplish much this hour because of the need to work the kinks out of my back, but I did read some. James is working on his ghostly novel The Turn of the Screw. I'm fascinated by Toibin's ability to make this author come to life and I'm glad that I haven't read any of Henry James's works up until now. I feel that they will be so much richer after I finish this book.
Tamara, you better take those puppies for a walk or you may be doing bathroom duty. Lol. Just get your heaviest coat.

I'm here! I'm off from work, and I'll resume reading Create Dangerously: The Immigrant Artist at Work by Edwidge Danticat. I'm planning to go until 9 pm, and maybe later.
22Eat_Read_Knit
I'm here for the next couple of hours. I'm reading Diarmaid MacCulloch's Reformation, picking up at page 91. Since it's 9.40pm here already, I might switch to reading something fluffier when it gets late.
23Kirconnell
Wow, Stephen! What a pretty crown.
24lkernagh
Errands finished - including the unexpected repair required to the doorknob on the front door - and will now curl up for a couple of hours of reading The Bells by Richard Harvell, and ER book that so far is proving to be a delightful story!
25leperdbunny
Lol Velma! Luckily we have a huge backyard for them to play in but our 5 month old is just now learning how to properly walk on a leash!!! :D
Thanks Stephen. Its SO SHINY!
Caty- Welcome!
Lori- Welcome!
Hi Darryl and Welcome- I had to edit this because I missed you! I swear I wasn't trying to ignore you- slight brain freeze here!
I am making progress in March although not as much as I would have hoped. I have to remind myself this is not a competition though. I seem to be reading slower today for some reason. I have the luxury of reading in the mornings this week though so I can also read for a few hours each morning too.

Ack! Just getting ready to really start reading for the day, and I have to leave in an hour to meet some friends for a movie. Finished up 1st to Die earlier, between phone calls and doing yard work for what is hopefully the last time before the snow flies. Now I think I'm going to try and finish My Life on the Pink Carpet by Leslie Jordan, and after that ... I'm not sure.
It's such a brisk, chilly day and the last thing I want to do is get bundled up again, drive, deal with people, watch the movie and drive back home. I'd much rather be home, reading by the fire and checking in here every hour!
Sounds like everyone is doing some great reading so far!

I'm getting revved up for some quality reading time here. I worked in the yard so I deserve some down time, right? Oh yeah, then I went to the grocery store and when I came home the garage door wouldn't open. Broken spring! I guess we'll start Monday with one vehicle in and one out. I guess the one with a real job gets to take the car in the driveway. Darn it, I have stuff to do and will have to wait around for the repairman.
Oh, this thread is all about reading, isn't it? I'll be reading The Brutal Telling which kept me up too late last night.

Not much reading done this hour because I had to do a load of laundry for work tomorrow. Booo!
Everyone's reading sounds so interesting. I just start writing down titles and then I think about all the books waiting for me already. I guess that I know what my New Year's Resolutions will be next year.....again!
Tamara, I bet that you missed Darryl's post because of the glare from Stephen's crown.

Lol Donna and sorry to hear about the garage door! When I was a kid during the winter the garage door would freeze and I'd have to go hang out at my neighbor's house- I feel your pain!

It's been a bit of a slow start, as I took a 30 minute nap soon after I started, but I'm ready to go to work. I'm on page 103 of Create Dangerously, and I should finish it by 8 pm.

I had the Bears/Vikings game on while I was reading Zachary Taylor and, at some point, dozed off in my easy chair for about an hour. After eating Sunday dinner (homemade soup), I am back at my reading for the evening. Probably from now through about midnight.
Hopefully, should finish the Zachary Taylor bio by about 8 pm.

#32 Mark, I'm not a Bears fan. I'm a lifelong Packers fan.
This Zachary Taylor bio is not all that great. I think the Polk biographer covered the same material in a better way. I am looking forward to reading about Taylor's brief presidential term. I never knew it but Taylor was the first president not to have held another political office first.

Oooh- adding The Bells to my wishlist!

I'm almost finished with Create Dangerously, with only 21 pages to go. I'll start reading The Salt Smugglers by Gérard de Nerval next.
36leperdbunny
Ok only on page 150 right now- some of March is heartwrenching to read due to the treatment of the slaves!
37Kirconnell
I'm still reading. It's amazing that a book with so little action can move so well. The pages almost turn by themselves.
38Carmenere
I'm back and checking in. Browns lost in OT - a fumble dashed their chances. Read about 30 pages and still going strong.
39lkernagh
Donna - Sorry to hear about the garage door. Here is hoping it is fixed quickly tomorrow!
Tamara - March is one of the books on my TBR pile. Your comments are enticing me to move it up the pile.
Hi Mark! *waves*
Darryl - I see you are one of only a handful of people on LT with Create Dangerously. Any quick thoughts on the book or should I wait for your review...? *nudge, nudge*
Velma - Any book that moves that well is worth reading!
As for me, I have just crossed the 100 page mark in The Bells - still loving it - but sadly need to abandon the book for a few hours to prepare dinner and the usual evening meal formalities.
Happy reading everyone!

Lynda: Yeah, very disappointing about the Browns...but man do I love watching that team this year. Peyton Hillis = awesome, plain and simple. :)
Have you seen what Troy Smith has been doing? He had a huge game today (350 yards) and he got another win for the 49ers! I'm so happy for him, I hated seeing him as a back up in Baltimore. I hope they keep him as the starter for awhile!

Up to page 131 of Reformation: ridiculously slow going, thanks to lots of scribbling of notes in margins and TV and LT related distractions.
Nearly 1am GMT, so I'm going to read 20 minutes or so of Love Lies Bleeding to unwind my brain (and probably check a few more threads) and then head off to bed.

I'm about halfway through The Brutal Telling. Nothing like relaxing after working to exhaustion in the crisp fall air with a quiet little murder to solve. Trying not to think about the hassle that awaits me in the morning with a garage door repair.
I love hearing about everyone's reads. Tam, you're reading the only book in this group that I've read. March certainly gave me a different perspective of Little Women. I always meant to go back and read LW after learning about the dad. Well, I suppose I can still do that...one of these days.

I did finish Create Dangerously: The Immigrant Artist at Work by Edwidge Danticat, which was very good. It's a series of short essays based on previously written articles about Haiti and its people, the US, Ms Danticat's family, friends, and people she has encountered, and events such as the 1964 public execution of two freedom fighters by "Papa Doc" Duvalier, 9/11, and this year's devastating earthquake in Haiti.
I've only read a few pages of The Salt Smugglers, as I'm quite sleepy, but I'm enjoying it so far. I'll try to keep going, but I think I may take another nap, or possibly call it a night.

Darryl,Create Dangerously: The Immigrant Artist at Work sounds so interesting I might have to get it. You are EVIL.

Ikernagh, yes, it is quite a good read.
Probably my last post for the night, but you guys keep up the good work. I've had a great time.

Well folks I'm closing up shop- I wish I could have gotten more read :(. I'm going to be doing this again next Sunday, then the week after I will be working, followed by the first weekend of Dec I will have one more Sunday to readathon. :) Thanks for the company everyone! I had fun. :)

Yes, this has been fun, once again. I'm sorry I couldn't participate for very long. I'll probably keep reading for awhile then go to bed early. All that fresh air today has made me tired.
Oh, the plot is thickening in my book. The author, Louise Penny, has cleverly worked in some clues based on the book, Charlotte's Web. Fun stuff. G'night all and happy reading to you!

Yes, the Browns are fun to watch for a change Stephen. At least they're getting some numbers on the board. The McCoy - Hillis connection is something to watch for in the future.
I've enjoyed this little get together Tamara and I look forward to doing it again. Night all

I read all of a brief presidential bio, Zachary Taylor by John S.D. Eisenhower. Also read about 20 percent of a cozy mystery Tragic Magic by Laura Childs.

Sorry I missed this. We were on a college visit with our oldest yeterday and were gone for most of the day. I did read from about 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST so I guess I did inadvertently participate. I finished up The Reckoning by Harold Owen which was my ER book for October and started The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood. If you do this again next week, I may be able to join.
For whatever reason, the touchstones will not load so I can choose the correct version of The Reckoning so I am just leaving them as they are.
