Pocket Books vs Signet

While browsing in a bookstore for Stephen King paperbacks, I found copies published by Pocketbooks and by Signet. The print in the Pocketbooks was crisp, clean, uniform, and easy to read. The Signet books had print that was fuzzy and that varied from light to dark. Is it just me or has anyone else found this to be the case? Has the author changed publishers?

I guess I haven't paid attention. I thought they were all Signet. Which books were by which publisher?

I do remember reading somewhere that The Shining had been reprinted and the person mentioning the reprint said that the original Signet had small printing that was harder to read than the newer version (published by Pocket, I guess).
