They are, of course, forgetting the most important question: Why is the TSA conducting random pat-downs of CHILDREN to begin with. I have no problem with this method if you have a legitimate suspicion that someone is a threat, but random searches is moronic.
ETA: Edited my comments to reflect the fact that the article centered on pat-downs, not strip searches. Either way, its still wrong.

I'm not a big fan of TSA policies, but do you actually think terrorists would hesitate to use children?

I don't, but more than that I'm opposed to a government treating its entire population like potential criminals. If you have legitimate reason to suspect someone of being a terrorist beyond xenophobia, go ahead, but random searches are moronic. For all you know, you're searching innocent people and the terrorist is that guy walking through security without a problem, chuckling under his breath because nobody's noticed he's carrying illegal materials.

My problem with "profiling possible terrorists" is that this would include most non-white travelers and anyone with a beard. I am not sure I want to insult and inconvenience all those people just so that I, little old white lady, gets a pass.

there is a simple answer if you find these methods distasteful.
DO NOT FLY.
If you have a better answer as to how to keep people from blowing up own planes and killing hundreds of people...which they have....or hijacking a plane, or two or three...which they have, and killing THOUSANDS of innocent people, please speak up!!
In the meantime, I have no problem with random, or for that matter, non-random searches. Yes, of old people or children because yes, they people who want to kill us have and will continue to use women and children and people in wheelchairs, as they have in other countries, or whoever they know we are being so PC as to stop searching.
Get real.
There are people in the world that hate the USA, hate our freedoms, hate the rights women and gays have in this country, hate our freedom to worship as we wish or not to worship at all, our freedom to vote...who hate our rights to be able to say things like this and would happily kill us to impose their own beliefs.
