If you have just joined us, the stories started here: You know you are addicted... , volume 1

I'm skittles & I'm addicted to BookMooch!

You know you are addicted to BookMooch when...

You were given too many books to give away all at once, but you have company coming for the holidays... you should get rid of them... you can't send them out right now... but you can't let your family see how many MORE books you have, even though you are going to get rid of them.... so you pack up the not-ready-to-send-them-in-prime-time books and hide the boxes in not too obvious places... you hope. placing other things in front of those boxes so your friends & relatives don't realize that there are more books hidden than are on the visible shelving.

HIDE ME!!!!

*giggles* oh wow, skittles!

you know you are addicted when you go browsing your TBR piles for books to put in your inventory because you probably won't get around to reading them... even though you know you have enough points and can't ship this month.

You enjoy reading other moochers profiles and comments and all that.
Or when you have 600! points. I mooched from a person today whom has 600! points.
I just can't fathom that.
They weren't a bookstore, just some random gal.

.... when you patiently stand in line at the post office for 20 min. to make sure the mooches that have been pending for a week get on their way.

.... when you come up with condition notes in your head, even for books you like so much that you want to keep them.

Actually, that has little to do with BM and everything to do with REALLY boring classes! :) BM is more a convienient dumping ground for useless textbooks lol!

....broke your laptop, when you were so flipping P.O.'ed that you missed a book on your wishlist when you've been waiting on it so long and someone some how beat you to it! But you were RIGHT there when you got the email.
Okay, so I didn't intend to to break it, but making a mad swipe at it/towards it with my arm in emphases didn't help.

(I don't know why I'm going to do this... but I gotta help another moocher... it's like helping family out.. you just gotta do it... even if it means less wishlisted books for me)

#7: Rule #13: Do Not Trust the Wishlist Emails.

Get thee an RSS feed of your choice.

I use Google Reader.

Subscribe to the wishlist feed & watch that.

It is "pretty good" but not perfect.

It is A LOT BETTER than depending upon the wishlist emails.

Subscribe using this URL: http://bookmooch.com/rss/wishlist/en/YourUserNameExactly/

THEN you will get more wishlist hits....

The only way to get more wishlist hits is to...

hit refresh every 30 seconds!!

Which, since we are all addicted to BookMooch, is something we already do!!!

Good Luck!!

(but don't get any books on my wishlist before me!!)

If you need more help setting up your RSS feed, PM me or just scream for help on this thread!!

"and someone will be with you shortly!"

Edited: Dec 17, 2010, 8:29 pm

Hmm, I have contemplated an RSS feed, but since I am always on so many laptops/pcs. I haven't sat down to set it up.
My DH is a professional geek, lol so I will have him help me out. Of course I am not too much of a dingus when it comes to techy things.
Either way, THANK YOU for reminding me, and to each his/her own. I can't help if I snatch a wish-listed book from you, but if I do, I apologize in advance.
I can't see your book list so I can't tell if we like the same books. ;0)

When you get excited about a book list. Any book list.

When you systematically categorise online book reviews with Delicious tags "to-be-mooched", "wishlisted", "owned"...

When you are at art class and are really only supposed to be printing out a picture needed for an art project and nothing else 'cause the printer is low on ink, but you sneaky-print the first page of "most wishlisted" BM books 'cause the one you carry in your purse is outdated.

When you get a book you have angel mooched for someone else and stay up all night trying to finish reading it before you have to send it on!!

13chelonianmobile
Dec 20, 2010, 5:26 pm

When checking the mail is the only reason you've left the house, a package arriving is just about the only thing between you and STABBING SOMETHING LOTS (not with the exacto knife, obviously, as it would be detrimental to opening packages), and taking a vacation means you mostly just become a lurker, instead of actively participating.

14SecondChances

#24 it must be the season. I have been mooching books the last few weeks that are not even on my wishlist. It's almost a compulsion. The neat thing is they have been arriving quickly and every day the arrival of the mailman is another Christmas!

I keep finding that I'm missing just one or two of a series...and my immediate thought is "is it on BookMooch?" Unfortunately, the answer so far has been no. Of course, I did find other books by the same author and mooched those... (who said too many books?).

The father of a friend of mine tipped the postman once, because he always climbs the stairs to leave the packages that don't fit on the mailbox by the door. Just so that she hasn't have to go to the post office to pick it up.

My postman just complained that I kept receiving packages and said that I should get a bigger mailbox to be able to fit them all inside.

>39 Belladonna1975: The only book of mine that has come up was pre-reserved for someone else. :( That is what I am guessing, anyway, since it's domestic and 90% of the guy's current inventory is reserved for that person. Oh well, given how often I reserve for you guys I can't really complain.

We put our mail on hold because nobody in my household is physically able to dig our mailbox out to a degree where the carrier could really get to it, but I still keep making moves in the direction of the giant snow mound where the box is located. There is no mail to get! There is no point in trying to check it! Sadly, BookMooch has trained me too well.

You've learned to read account histories well enough that you can often tell that something has gone wrong in the person's life. When you see an account that used to be in good standing but they haven't been on in ages and the most recent section of their pending is bright red . . . you get a bit worried about the person on the other end.

I would like to preface this little story by saying that this would absolutely 100% never have happened if not for BookMooch.

There is a sliiiight possibility that I got 30+ books from the FOL shelf today. "I bet all of these are wishlisted, so people will want them when I am done!" I said. "Many of these are light mass markets, so they would be inexpensive to send!" I said. While I was correct on both fronts . . . 30+ books. Thankfully they're not all for me and I'm not really planning to read all of them, but oy vey.

>60 skittles: Lately the shelves have been kind of boring and full of hardcovers, so I thought I was safe to just take a glance, AND THEN!!! Luckily my recent spree eliminated most of my official TBP (unluckily most of my postage budget) so for the next several months I'm probably just going to do a few mooches a month if there are books you guys want.

On the plus side, I got a few nice books for BFK (they might have to be for next year), and nineteen of the other books are across three authors. :D

>59 chelonianmobile: & 61 - I am anxiously waiting for the FOL sales to start around here - now my story. And there was one sale where I came home with 50+ books - it was a gooood sale. I'm going to be looking for books for BFK this year too.
