Well, of course I'm going to read all the books I planned to read in 2010, and didn't...
Here are the ones I didn't get to last year, plus the 2011 ANZ LitLovers selection. I'll remove them from this list as I read them and put them in comments that show my progress month by month.
YEAR OF EUROPEAN READING #2 (I did make a sizeable dint in this section of the TBR last year (see my blog category Year of European Reading) but there's lots more to go).
FRANCE
1. Germinal by Emile Zola
2. Wandering Star by J.M. Le Clézio (winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2008)
GERMANY
3. Faust by Wolfgang von Goethe
4. The Rings of Saturn by W.G. Sebald
5. Doctor Faustus by Thomas Mann and I've also got
6. Siddharta by Herman Hesse
ITALY
7. The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio
8. The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Paolo Giordano (winner of the Premio Strega Award, akin to the Man Booker)
9. The Divine Comedy by Dante Aligheri
10. The Leopard by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa
GREECE
12. Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis
ALBANIA
13. The Concert by Ismail Kadare (winner of the inaugural Man Booker International Prize 2005)
TURKEY (not exactly European, but...)
14. My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk (winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature 2006)
POLAND
15. Travels with Herodotus by Ryszard Kapuscinski
Then some Booker winners, from my collection:
1. Holiday by Stanley Middleton (1974 joint winner)
and two Miles Franklins from a long time ago
1. The Big Fellow by Vance Palmer (1959)
2. The Irishman by Elizabeth O'Conner (1960)
I got almost nowhere with my non-fiction TBR last year so 'will try harder' in 2011. I re-number these as I read them,
2. The Landmark Herodotus edited by Robert B Strassler
3. The Battle for Spain, The Spanish Civil War 1936-1939 by Antony Beevor
5. Enid Lyons, Leading Lady to a Nationby Anne Henderson
6. Empire: How Britain Made the Modern World by Niall Ferguson, read in conjunction with The Penguin Historical Atlas of the British Empire by Nigel Dalziel

9. Life Class, The Education of a Biographer by Brenda Niall
10. Daphne Du Maurier by Margaret Forster
11. The Rite of Spring, 75 Years of Music-Making by Martin Buzacott
12. The Vietnam Years, From the Jungle to the Australian Suburbs by Michael Caulfield
13. Australians, Origins to Eureka by Thomas Keneally
14. Other People's Words by Hilary McPhee
15. Great Pioneer Women of the Outback by Susanna de Vries
16. Judy Cassab, a Portrait by Brenda Niall
17. Romulus, My Father by Raimond Gaita
18. Flaws in the Glass by Patrick White
19. The Angel of Grozny by Asne Seierstad
20. Wild Mary by Patrick Marnham
21. These Few Lines by Graham Seal
22. Sydney's Burning by Ian Turner
My Biggie for the year is to start reading the Bible from beginning to end, and I'll be using James L. Kugel's How to Read the Bible to do it.
I'll also source some of the very early titles from 1001 Books You Must Read, probably from Project Gutenberg, I'll read some more of Balzac's short(ish) stories, and I'll continue reading Australian literature old and new as it comes along.
Top priority for ozLit are already on my TBR. I made a good start on reading some of these last year, and you can read my reviews of those on my blog. I've added a couple more.
2. In the New Country by David Foster
3. Ron McCoy's Sea of Diamonds by Gregory Day
4. The Anatomy of Wings by Karen Foxlee (shortlisted for the Barbara Jefferis Ward)
5. Water under the Bridge by Sumner Locke Elliott

7. The Children's Writer by Gary Crew
8. The Rose Leopard by Richard Yaxley

12. The God of Spring by Arabella Edge
13. An Accidental Terrorist by Steven Lang
14. The Multiple Effects of Rainshadow by Thea Astley
ANZ LitLovers Reading Schedule choices for 2011
(I haven't listed the ones I've already read, see http://tinyurl.com/2ez6p48 for the full list).
June: Advance Australia Where? by Hugh Mackay
July: As The Earth Turns Silver by Alison Wong (NZ Post Award)
November: Miles Franklin Award winner 2011 (TBA)
There's also about 800 on my To-read list at GoodReads only some of which are duplicated here. I use that TBR to record recommendations from bloggers I read so that I don't forget them - and I've also added all the ones from 1001 Books You Must Read (which took ages but now I can see where I'm going with the list).
There are worse ways to be obsessed....

Looking forward to following your reading this year. I also have a large 'to read' list over on GoodReads. It's fairly convenient place to keep an 'I might be interested, but need to know more' sort of list.
7anzlitlovers
Yes, I find GoodReads really good like that...for example, although I have (literally) a couple of thousand books on the TBR shelf there, (because I've entered all the ones I've read/still have to read from 1001 Books You Must Read whether I've got a copy yet or not) - by tagging some of them 'aim to read in 2010' I can then sort them into the order I think I'd like to read them in and mark then off as they're done. I've also tagged some by what prizes they've won so that I can keep tabs of how I'm going working my way through the Booker prize winners, Nobels, Miles Franklins etc.

I've sent you a friend request on GR (I'm Kerry Aluf over there). I'm going to have to sort my GR 'to read' list into some sort of order, theres more than 600 books on my list now. My priority reading is the 'books in my house at present' pile.

#7: Can I send you a friend request on GR too, Lisa?

#9 Stasia, please do! Don't forget to answer the GR question I've posed *grin*
***update 2 minutes later***
I've found you there and sent you a friend request - well, I hope it's you!

What GR question?
What GR question?
12anzlitlovers
#11 On GR, you can set it up so that people who initiate friending you have to answer a question that you set for them: this acts as a bit of a restraint on people who just want to gather as many friends as they can to look good. (You know, the ones with 800 'friends' LOL). My Q is easy, all they have to do is visit my blog and they'll work it out straight away.

Hi Lisa, happy new year! You have a lot of good books to pick from there - I haven't read many of them but I did really enjoy The Cello Suites in December. (It helps a lot if you are a fan of the suites already.) And I got a fair way into The Battle for Spain in 2008 then got distracted, and lost the thread - it was very dense but well written like his other books.
Do you mind taking me off the emails for ANZLL? The digest still turns up and I keep meaning to tell you! It goes into its own folder and they just pile up. Thanks.
Hope you are far away from the terrible Aussie weather. There was a photo of swimming snakes in the local paper yesterday... ugh.

Thanks Lisa. OK, I tried, but I remember that my login was not my usual yahoo or xtra one - so I can't get into the site! (Probably why I never turned it off when I left the group). I always just got the emails, didn't go to the website.
