January reading
1. Deadline by Chris Crutcher
Excellent teen novel about a boy who only has a year to live and decided not to tell people or get treatment. I was laughing and crying during this book.
2. Hamlet's Blackberry by William Powers
Non-fiction pick for our cities Great Read. Had to force myself to read it. He connected people from the past when things were changing to how technology today has changed us. I'm not so stressed by tech. that I found this useful information.
3. Mrs. Kimble by Jennifer Haigh
A patron at the library where I work recommended this and I'm glad I took her advice. An excellent novel about 3 women who marry Ken Kimble and how their lives intersect. Starts in 1969 and ends in 1995. I just wish we learned more about Mr. Kimble throughout the book. A good read.
4. Schooled by Gordon Korman
A young adult Caudill nominee book I really enjoyed. Cap(ricorn) is dropped into 8th grade at a large middle school after being homeschooled by his hippie grandma while living in an old commune. He has absolutely no modern culture knowledge so it was funny and interesting to see what happens to someone so sheltered. An enjoyable read.
5. Mr. Monster by Dan Wells
Second book in the trilogy about a boy who is determined not to be a serial killer. Good follow up from the first one. A good read for anyone who enjoys books about serial killers.
6. Left Neglected by Lisa Genova
Excellent book about a woman who is left with brain damage after a car accident. She doesn't recognize anything to her left. How she goes from a high powered business woman and mom of three to dealing with this disability makes for a great read.

February reading
1. The Sentry by Robert Crais
Another good one in his series, this one featuring Joe Pike over Elvis Cole. Not as much suspense for me, and the villain POV was strange until I figured out what his problem was!
2. Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
3. Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly
Excellent teen book about a gifted girl who is grieving the death of her little brother. She plays guitar and is writing about a famous French composer/guitarist for school. She ends up in Paris and discovers some amazing things. Interwoven with entries from the diary of a girl who lived during the French Revolution. Lots of stuff about the French Revolution that I knew nothing about. Highly recommend.
4. Villa Mirabella by Peter Pezzelli
Cute little novel about an Italian family in Rhode Island. Nice story.
5. the condition by Jennifer Haigh
just ok story of a dysfunctional family, didn't really like the characters!
6. Delirium by Lauren Oliver
Excellent YA dystopian book with a little of The Giver and 1984 thrown in! Lena lives in Portland, Maine where "love" is a disease you need a cure for because it causes all the problems in the world. Everyone gets the cure when they turn 18. The are matched with a spouse and live out boring lives with no emotions and a host of rules made by the watchful government. Of course, Lena meets Alex and love blooms! Lena begins to see that everything she has been taught is a lie. I think this is the beginning of a trilogy.
7. Treachery in Death by J.D. Robb
I love Eve Dallas. 'nuff said!

March reading
1. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
Excellent true story about Louie Zamperini's will to survive during WWII after being shot down and drifting in a raft for 47 days, then as a POW in Japan with a sadistic commander who constantly beat and berated him. Amazing story.
2. The Night Season by Chelsea Cain
No Gretchen this time, but the killer octopuses actually work! I like how she tied up the past/present story. Good action, I couldn't put it down.
3. Divergent by Veronica Roth
Good dystopian YA set in Chicago. Strong female character, but no Katniss!
4. Fat Chance by Deborah Blumenthal
Chick-lit that looked good at library but was just an ok read.
5. The Wild Zone by Joy Fielding
Thriller about half-brothers, a girlfriend, a crazy friend and an abused wife. Thriller with a twist at the end.
6. Angry Management by Chris Crutcher
YA with 3 short stories, each with a different angry teenager in it. Sad mostly. Thought they would do more with the counseling and character of Nak but it never tied together.
7. The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino
An English translation of a story set in Japan. Interesting characters and unfolding plot. It might have lost a little in translation but was enjoyable none the less.
8. Secrets to the Grave by Tami Hoag
A good sequel to Deeper than the Dead. I like Vince and Anne as characters. Interesting mystery.

April reading
1. Girl, 15, Charming but Insane by Sue Limb
Enjoyed listening to this on a road trip with my daughter. Laugh out loud funny lines. Jess was a very entertaining character and hit home with my teenager.
2. Matched by Ally Condie
A solid YA dystopian novel with Cassia and Ky and Xander. They live in the Society, a very controlled world where you are told what to do, when and where, what your job is and who you will be matched with. Cassia is matched with her childhood friend Xander but a clinch in the technology also shows her Ky as her match. As with all dystopians the characters begin to question their lack of choices and rebellion won't be far behind. Didn't know until the last chapter that it was the beginning of a trilogy. Imagine that!!!
3. Where's Billie by Judith Yates Borger
A mystery featuring reporter Skeeter Hughes set in Minnesota.
4. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakthrough
Very good mutligeneration novel.
5. Quicksilver by Amanda Quick
