Finished my first - hurrah! For a book whose hype has preceded it in such a wave for the past 5 years, my expectations were low, as I was expecting to hate it based on my experience of hearing it abridged on BBC Radio 4. I think this was a good lesson in not reading a book/watching a film during it's peak of popularity, because I found it magnetic.

@alcottacre @drneutron,

I have been reading a lot of free standing short stories from my New Yorker subscription and from the Atlantic Fiction on Kindle series from Amazon. Individually they in no way count, but I have read so many of them that they count for the majority of my reading time. Is there any way to arrange them into "collections" to count for this challenge? Or would it be better for a non-existant 365-Short-Stories challenge?

Peace and love x

Noiresque, if you want to count short stories towards this challenge, by all means do so. We are not the book police. We have people who count audiobooks, magazines, novellas, the gamut. It is your thread and you make the rules here :)

There's already a person who counts sf/fantasy magazines, and as Stasia says, it's your thread. Personally, I'd love to see recommendations for good short stories.

I got about 1/3 of the way through We Need to Talk About Kevin a few years ago but just wasn't able to continue (odd for me as I rarely fail to finish a book). Perhaps it is time to pick it up and give it another try...

I picked up We Need to Talk About Kevin a couple of years ago and have not yet opened the first page. This could be the year!

Hi Hal! Glad to see another Aussie in the group, it always makes things livelier.

Have you encountered Daily Science Fiction dot com? A fast short story, usually pretty good IMO, delivered to your inbox daily! Keeps me feeling connected to the trends. Oh, and have you joined Tor's website? Lots of good, free short fiction, and the occasional free ebook, posted there.

I think I've done all the damage I can do....
