Amy's 111 in 2011

January! This is going to take a bit of thinking. What did I actually finish after midnight on the first day of the new year? This first post is subject to change.

1. The Lying Game by Sara Shepard
2. The Mermaid's Mirror by L. K. Madigan
3. Pearl in the Sand by Tessa Afshar
4. Annexed by Sharon Dogar
5. Dead Beat by Jim Butcher
6. Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher
7. Room by Emma Donoghue
8. White Night by Jim Butcher

I read Room the first week of 2011, and let me tell you, everything I read this year is going to be in for some fierce competition.

Oh, and what am I reading at the moment? Excellent 11 by Ron Clark, Teacher Miracles by Brian Thornton, both for class, and Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher for fun. Why am I not finishing Dresden? Because I am 3 books ahead of my husband, and he is tired of me telling him to catch up.

I loved Room as well!

@Judylou: I feel like I was late to the party reading it!

My husband has gotten fed up with me not catching up with him - he's read them all, and I'm up to #6 or something. Great books, I really should read another couple!

@wookiebender: They're pretty good, but it's easy to burn out on them if you read too fast.

Eesh, at least now I can see when my reading dried up. This also gives me a time frame for when my e-reader software stopped working!

10. Teacher Miracles by Brian Thornton

11. Possible Side Effects by Augusten Burroughs
12. Eighth Grade Bites by Heather Brewer

Starting on Avalanche Dance next.

It's interesting special ordering less popular books from indie bookstores. I've checked in at my local bookstore three times, and the publisher has yet to respond to my special order! Granted, it's only been two weeks, but I really, really want to start reading Journey to the West and Romance of the Three Kingdoms!

Looking forward to your reviews of those - they're both on my TBR pile.

Possible Side Effects is already on my review site: amy-lynn.net/goblin/ and I should be posting Eighth Grade Bites tomorrow. Finishing off a week of midterms, but I need to review Avalanche Dance so I can get some more Early Reviewer books!

19. Digital Fortress by Dan Brown

Still working on Princep's Fury, but also started Angels and Demons. My husband's convinced me to give Brown a second chance. Besides, reading, re-reading, and notating 200 pages of any textbook just leaves me needing a comfort read of some sort!

#13> Brown's Deception Point was probably my favorite non-Robert Langdon of his books, but Digital Fortress was pretty interesting, too, having many friends & family working at NSA years ago.

@14: I'm curious how accurate some of it was. I know there are a lot of close calls the public never hears about, and it's interesting to consider. My aunt considers all of that classified so it's made me curious over the years what her answers would be, if she could give them.

I've no idea how accurate the procedures in Digital Fortress were, but the computing was nonsense. Given that and the errors in The Da Vinci Code I suspect little in any of his books is especially accurate.

#15>Maybe that's why I enjoyed it. I could go 'hmm' and 'uh-huh' and 'no-way' -- at the same time, my sister who worked there totally dismissed it. LOL

I know the TRANSLTR and the version of history he used was nonsense, but I'm wondering about the political structure of NSA and such. I know they aren't killing civilians for national security, but are there the subgroups and cliques?

Anyway, no more Dan Brown for a bit. Back to Jim Butcher's magic Roman series.

38. To Hell and Back

Wow, I stopped keeping track at this point?

Um....
April
39. First Lord's Fury by Jim Butcher
40. Shankara's Jewel by Swami Prabhavananda
41. Mencius by Mencius
42. Chuang Tzu by Chuang Tzu (partially, at least)

May
43. Family by Pa Chin
44. Some Prefer Nettles by Junichirou Tanizaki
45. A Lady Never Tells by Candace Camp

Give me a while. I'm not sure what I read while I was in China. I know Shankara and First Lord's Fury, but other than that, I'm a little fuzzy. I have to consult my e-reader....

46. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
47. The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx
48. The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
49. A Gentleman Always Remembers by Candace Camp
50. Dime Store Magic by Kelley Armstrong

While The Communist Manifesto isn't long, the amount of analysis my class required made it a reading ordeal, so I'm counting it. Plus, I still can't remember what three books I read in China.
