Not sure if we should have one thread for all discussions of specific pages, or one for each page, but here's a start.
I'd like to open up a discussion about the HelpThing page for the Profile.
In December, most of the content on that page was split up and moved to two separate pages, one for your profile, and one for other peoples' profile:
Old page:
http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php?title=HelpThing:Profile&oldid=444...
New page:
http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php?title=HelpThing:Profile&oldid=454...
While I sort of understand the motivation, I wonder whether it makes the page less helpful. The new page and the split off pages do not quite fit the HelpThing style guide, but more than that, I think it would be better to have more information on the main Profile page. (One addition I like is the prominent link at the top to the help page for editing the profile, which I think could stay in the overview section of the page.)
I see four options:
1) Revert back to the page as it was before, with all help for the profile (yours or others') on the same page.
2) Put at least the information for Your Profile back on the main Profile page, but keep and link to a separate page for other people's profiles. That keeps the page content-full and helpful, while splitting off some information.
3) Keep the December change: the current minimal initial help page and the detailed split-off detailed pages.
4) Keep split-off pages for Your Profile and Other Profiles, but add detailed information on the main Profile help page about features that are common to profiles in general.
My preference would be 1 or 2, or maybe 4. Generally, I think it would be useful to talk more about what we think needs to go on that page. It is/was linked as an example HelpThing page, and it seems a pretty important one.
