Sad news that Diana Wynne Jones has passed away. I knew that she'd been ill for a long time. She's been one of my favourite authors for a long time now, so I remember all her books with affection.

Sad indeed. One of my favourite authors. I always looked forward to her books and was never disappointed.

Here's a nice tribute to her from the Guardian

It makes me want to reread everything she wrote! (And find out what a butter-pie is, and where to get them!)

Yes, that's a lovely tribute, Sakerfalcon. One thiing I notice from the comments is how people always select such a wide range of works as their favourites. She's not an author with one or two books head and shoulders above the rest; instead, different works speak to different people depending on their own interests and circumstances.

>4 EveleenM:: Yes, I have a hard time picking a favourite; it changes according to my mood. If pinned down, I might be able to come up with a top 5!
