What do you write?

Hey, Samhain here. I'm also a teen writer (why else would I be here?). I was wondering what kind of stuff you like to write. I do a variety, but mostly fantasy/horror and sci fi.

my writing scatters around but over all sci-fi is my prime genre; I also write horror, gothic romance, and furries.

I've written a fair bit, but most of my ideas are still in my head. (must fix that!) I hope to get published but probably never will.

My main genre is fantasy, and it ranges from historical to urban and everything in-between. Also do paranormal (vampires and werewolves), time-travel and ghosts, and subtle paranormal horror/chillers.

My idea was to make my first full length novel fantasy--because I only have time to write on the side and fantasy requires no research or preparation. I want to write something very simple, but well executed and with some meaning. However, this is a lot more work than I thought it would be, and I'm petrified that everything I write is just a random collection of all the books I've read.
Everyone here seems so confident about their writing. Doesn't anyone ever get writer's block?

KatieWallace: Sure I've had writer's block! There are days when I sit down with a piece of paper and my mind goes blank. If I'm at the computer that happens less frequently, though I don't know why.

Ideas burst forth nearly every day and I diligently record them on paper. Just yesterday I came up with an idea for a historical novel. The day before that I came up with two sci-fi stories, neither of which have any aliens. Also have ideas for two apocalyptic books, and a paranormal apocalypse as well.

I have the beginnings of about 500 different stories on my computer, paper, and in my head. I get inspiration from music, films, historical events, dreams, ect. Some are sadly blatant rip-offs of other things. I probably won't ever get published. But it really doesn't matter because I enjoy doing it.

My favorite genre is fantasy because it doesn't require research, just a good plot and likeable characters, which killed my first attempt at writing. I like to believe I've improved, and I'm certainly branching out.

Sorry if I went on a bit, I just love talking about writing.

Confident? I wish. I have these moments where I'm like "What the heck am I doing here?". The trick is to get two sets of friends to read your stuff. One set rip holes in your plot for you to fix, and another set who will just praise your work when you're having a bad day.

Haaah. I know that feeling, Samhain :)

On days when I'm feeling particularly gutsy, I'll be seen shouting "I need CRITIQUE!! I won't get better if you pamper me!" And the next day you'll see me huddling in a corner sobbing over how someone found a minor plot hole. Ah, the joy of it all.

And I write fantasy-ish stuff. Original, no?

one of my problems is writing dialouge. My people all sound like modern teenagers (maybe because everything I write is really just me speaking) which is really out of place in some fantasy settings. I tried to come up with a dialect, but it just sounded stilted and got really annoying to read. ROAR! Sorry I complain so much, but writing for me is a very frusterating (but I suppose rewarding) process.

It looks like the whole world writes fantasy-ish stuff.

I find that my dialouge is only good in a modern setting. In a fantasy world it tends to sound wooden, so I keep convesation to a minimum.

My family is a harsh critic. No one raves over how good my writing is. My brother reads what I have just written, points out the good stuff, and then goes into lengthy detail about everything that I did wrong. Which is good, but I just wish he'd go into detail about the good parts too.

Writing is hugely rewarding, but there seems to be an understated amount of frustration in such a profession (or hobby).

ello fellow teen writers! i tend to fluctuate between what i'm writing. i range from fan fiction to horror to romance.

my problem is i can't stay focused on one story line at a time. they all just pour into my head and collect until i start writing them down! it's a big pain, seeing as i'd like to have one story finished by the end of next year.

i don't think i've EVER written anything fantasy related...hmm...maybe i'll have to fix that! lol

I know exactly what you mean! I'll be well into one storyline, and then the inspiration dies, so I turn to another one, and then I can't make up my mind about which of the main characters will be killed, so I turn to something else, and so on and so forth...

I try to write things from all genres but lately I've been on Paranormal (vampires and Werewolves) due to a book I absoulutley love (some may know what I'm talking about) but I've written in all areas before.

My current main project is driving me insane, so I've started work on my first fan fiction. I've found it's a lot easier to write when someone else creates the world and characters for you. It's a great stress reliever.

I have been taking a 'vacation' as I call it, by doing a bit of fanfiction, where the world and characters are already established. It is a great stress reliever, isn't it?

One of the two fanfictions I have created has been developed so much, it can scarcely called fanfiction anymore, except for the names of a few characters and places. That is the one I am currently working on.

I write stories of love, friendship, and reuniting. Action packed but always filled with hidden lessons, I try to inspire the reader to follow their own heart

I prefer to write romance mixed with mystery and sometimes fantasy.

Hello. I'm new here. I am a writer. I don't have a specific genre I prefer, though I am currently working on my first novel which is fantasy. I enjoy writing fantasy (historical, epic, high, sword&sorcery). Some sci.fi. and horror. I also enjoy historical and literary fiction. I am an avid reader and student of history. Nice to meet you all.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE to write about my dreams! They are already in a story fashion and only need some finalizing and writing down. Also, they are great fantasy stories partly because many of the things that happen would never ever happen in real life. Also (if it counts) I love to write poetry... Poetry is,
A blissful thing,
That wraps the heart in wonders... Anyway...:P) But right now I'm writing a story about a family and how some strange coincidences connect to form a fantasy.

My first (and last to date) critique from my beloved uncle was:
"I started reading your book...the main character really annoyed me, and the story was pointless. It was just boring. You should change that."

Genre is a severe limit on creativity. I'm trying to give it up.

I write fiction. It really depends on my mood on what genre I write.
