Summer is just around the corner and it's time to sit back with a good book on a hot, lazy day.
Group read rules are as usual:
1. Nominate up to 2 books that you would like to read.
2. Second as many books as you like.
3. All books that recieve a second will go into the poll to be voted on.
This Summer I would like to read (and so will nominate) Pamela by Samuel Richardson and The Stone Diaries. I'm looking forward to seeing what interests the rest of the group.
Nominations will close at 11:59 PM on Friday, May 20th.

I second The Stone Diaries. This summer I plan to read 100 Years of Solitude, Colour (it also an Orange prize book, so I'm reading it in July for the July Orange group read--two birds with one stone), and possibly Possession, Jude the Obscure, The Master and The Corrections.

I'd second Jude the Obscure -- I want to read more Hardy.
In July I intend to read The German Lesson by Siegfried Lenz, but I don't think anybody else will want to join me on that. So I will nominate for June, If on a winter's night a traveler by Italo Calvino. Love that title!

Edited to add:
I would like to nominate Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon

Some nice books! I'd like to second The Master.
I'd like to nominateSebastian Faulk's Birdsong which has been on the shelves for far too long, and A Boy's Own Story by Edmund White, which I've currently borrowed from my Mum and should return it one day...
Edited to remove Birdsong (see a couple of messages below).

I second Cold Comfort Farm.
Wookie, I'm not going to second Birdsong now, because I plan to read it in November for my annual WWI fiction theme. If you can keep it on your shelf for a little while longer, I'll read it with you then.

Joyce, it's already been on my shelf for nearly four years anyway, a few more months won't make any difference. :)
Hello, my name is wookiebender, and I'm a book hoarder.
I'll withdraw my nomination for Birdsong and suggest instead Cakes and Ale.

I could do with some support to finally get me to open Crime and Punishment. I read two of Fyodor Dostoevsky's books while I was travelling last year (The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov), really helped by long journeys and a lack of shiny new books to distract me!
My second would be 225119::The Trial.
edited to correct my spelling - I find Russian names very tricky!

Soffitta, I will second Crime and Punishment although I've already read it. It is a wonderful story.
Also, I don't understand your second of The Trial by Kafka. I don't see that it has been nominated.

George - I think it was her second selection, not her seconding an already mentioned book. But haven't we done the Trial already? Or did I dream that?
11soffitta1
Nickelini's right, I meant my second choice. I haven't seconded any choices so far as I have none of the books mentioned, and I am trying to read from my TBR pile. Although, I could probably get them through Bookcrossing.
I must have missed it being done as a Group Read, pity.

Ahhhhh. Confusion is gone.

Soffitta, I'm not sure it was a group read or not--my memory isn't so great these days. Like you, I try to read off of my TBR pile too.
14billiejean
I think maybe the Group Reads -- Literature group did a group read of that a while back.
15wookiebender
Definitely the Group Reads - Literature group did a read of The Trial, because that was when I joined them. :) I'm sure it'd be ripe for another round of discussion here, there's definitely a lot to talk about with that book. (Mostly along the lines of "what the...")

I'd happily second or third The Trial, would love to read that.

Thanks for setting up the poll!

I missed the nominations but I'm in time for the vote so it's all good. Thanks George for setting up the poll.

Just a reminder, if you want to vote in the poll, the minutes are counting down. The poll closes tonight at 11:59 PM CST in sunny down-town USA. We already have 20 voters and need more to jump in!!

The poll for June and July is over. The two books that were selected were One Hundred Years of Solitude and Cold Comfort Farm. Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll. I would like to start the month of June with One Hundred Years of Solitude. Happy reading. I look forward to your literary thoughts and comments. If you have none, then I look forward to your just blowing off steam and venting on how much you love or dispise these books. Enjoy!! (Gosh, it's hot in the South already.)

A few of us over at the ClubRead group are doing One Hundred Years of Solitude in July, so you are all welcome to join us. If you read it in June instead, please come over in July and leave some comments.
I have Cold Comfort Farm in Mnt TBR so I'll try to read that one too.

I have been wanting to read One Hundred Years of Solitude for a long, long time and have started it twice. I will try to join in on this, but I still haven't finished Love in the Time of Cholera yet. The Spring has been a little too busy for me this year.
25george1295
Well, I am all for jumping in with other groups. Let's start June with Cold Comfort Farm and we'll do One Hundred Years of Solitude in July. That way folks from this group can jump over to the ClubRead group if the wish to do so. On the 1st of June I will start a string for Cold Comfort Farm.

I just set up the thread for 100 Years of Solitude over at the Club Read 2011 group. Should we start a thread here too, or does everyone just want to meet over there?
