I'll admit to months of dormancy followed by sleep deprivatory binges. On one of those now, but determined to make a more concerted effort at regular visits. Bad for the Book Depository wishlist, good for the soul. Today's question: Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. Should I go there? It's on of those books that I probably could have read in the time I've spent trawling through wildly conflicting reviews, and now it's glaring at me from the shelf, having firmly entrenched itself in the "you must read me as duty" category. Does anyone else have books that shift from potential pleasure to potential chore? yes, I've done it to myself, I know...

Yes, I'm currently reading Consciousness Explained by Daniel C. Dennett. I am finding it a chore but I am still interested enough to want to finish. I have taken a break and read something else in the middle.

I've picked Freedom up, read 10 pages and put it down again. Currently reading 100 Autumns of Jacob Z. I like David Mitchell but I am find this a bit of a chore.

Well, I did it. Freedom read. In a nutshell, never again. Very good book, painfully delivered. Yet to read 100 Autumns of Jacob De Zoet, David Mitchell is one of my favourites. Curious to know what you make of it.
