After getting off to a slow start, (and being encouraged by two other readers), halfway through The Lacuna, I am loving it. To me it reads like it is historical and not just fiction. I can already tell that it is going to lead me in several different ways but hopefully I can put it off until after All Virago/All August. I am especially fascinated with Trotsky. Frida, I have studied in the past but now I want to go back and do it again. What a story, what a book!~! If you've not read it, please do. It is very good once you find your way into it.
hugs all round,
belva

Belva, you've encouraged me to try this one again. I started it about a year ago and gave up. I probably won't read it for Orange July, but I will try again at some point!

Katie,
I hope that you do give The Lacuna another try and I am very grateful for the encouragement I got here to keep going. I think this one is truly worth it. I have found that my reading of it has slowed, as I don't want to put it down. LOL!~! Perhaps you might save it up for Orange January or next July.
hugs,

I didn't want that to happen, but somehow I knew that it would.

I loved this book. I do admit that it took me a few extra pages to get into it but I loved everything about this book. I liked the characters very much. I like that it put a hunger in me to reach out for more information on the real life persons in it and also for the era; social and political. (always thought McCarthy sucked; still do, the same with Hoover) I loved the 'color' of the book, how I could see, hear, smell, really feel what was going on and the surroundings as well. A beautifully drawn book is The Lacuna. I highly recommend it and give it 4 1/2 stars. I think I would have given it 5 had it not been for the slow start and the drop off for me in the midst of the letters.
