Are you reading a book that has an official release date in June or July 2011? Or did you receive an ER book in either month?

Post here and let us know what the title is. Should the rest of us rush out and get a copy ourselves, or is it awful?

This is a challenge for the July TIOLI (link | wiki).

I'm looking forward to this. I'm reading The Oriental Wife which is due out July 19. I'm currently holding the only copy, but it looks good!

well, I'll be one of many, I expect, devouring A Dance with Dragons beginning July 12!

3> Oh, I forgot that the GRRM book was due in July! I don't read the series myself, see. But I guess this was a precipitous challenge for everyone wanting to slot that one in somewhere :D

I love this challenge. It also conveniently fits Heartless :)

This month I actually received 2 ER books, The Borgia Betrayal from the March batch finally got here, and Prophecy from the May batch. So they were already on my list to read in July, great that they will earn a spot on TIOLI too!

Does it need to be an ER book, or can it be an Amazon Vine book received in either month? Just wondering...

Thanks Suzanne, that would help me too. I've read all my ER books, the most recent would have fitted this month's TIOLI and didn't fit last month's too (by Stefan Merrill Block). There was only one book from last month of interest and I didn't get it, and there's nothing this month. I hope Faber and Canongate haven't decided to drop out of the programme. And my last Vine books appear to have been April releases.

7> Amazon Vine would be fine. As long as it's an ARC that was sent out in June or July.

My recent books from Vine haven't even been ARCs, oddly, as nearly all the previous ones were! One of the two I've finished this month has been listed for three challenges including mine, but I think we've put them all together in challenge 20.

Thanks, Keri! That will help me get some of my Vine books read -- I hope!

If it were extended to include NetGalley, I could include the only book I've read this month that has not otherwise fit a TIOLI challenge (because I never get the right number for challenge one).

Yes, yes, all books received through Vine, ER, or NetGalley in June or July are the kind of thing I intended with this, as well as the new releases. I was just a bit myopic when saying "ARCs through ER"!

(Also, I am so annoyed that I just got a promotion at work the first week of the month, and I haven't had time to sit down and read my new releases which I'd been looking forward to!)

#12 -- I know exactly what you mean about never being around for that "right" number!!

Congrats on the promotion, Keri!

Thanks, Suzanne :)

I'm really happy about it, but in a bittersweet sort of way - I can spend money on books again, but I have no time to read during the week! And then I'm too tired when I get home. It's definitely not conducive to giving proper attention to my new and anticipated books. Oh, well...

Well, once you get accustomed to the new routine, I imagine you'll find it becomes less time-consuming. Either that, or the job itself becomes fascinating enuf that it's a tradeoff that you don't mind making quite as much.

I have a STACK of Vine books that need to be read, or they won't let me pick any more. And I'm feeling overwhelmed by everything else on my to-read list as well!

I think I can put Middle School, The Worst Years of My Life by James Patterson. I think the release date was June.

Right before our 30th high school reunion, a few of us were chatting on Facebook one night. We all agreed that our middle school years were some of our worst. I think we had some of the worst teachers during that period of our lives. We did, however, all agree that we loved our band teacher. He went on to become our high school band director and actually won our "favorite male teacher" award at the reunion.

I finally got a chance to sit and read the book that I started this challenge specifically for!

Wandering Son: Book One by Takako Shimura.

It's a graphic novel from Fantagraphics Books and such a beautiful object. It smells delicious, too, with pages that are a nice, heavy weight.

I've written a review for it (see here), but @PhoenixTerran has also written an excellent review that I encourage folks to check out, especially if you're interested in books that look at LGBTQ issues (this one is about two fifth-grade children, ten or eleven years old, who are transgender).

The book was scheduled to come out the first week of July, but was shipped from Amazon in early June. There are 11 books in the series and on-going, but only the first has been translated to English, and no more than two have been scheduled...I love it so much, I really hope it's successful so that future books get translated, too.

(And next up, I'm reading Nat Tate which I got as an ER this month, and which chatterbox has already read. It looks like fun, so I hope I can finish it by next weekend.)

Just finished The Real Macaw by Donna Andrews. I began it this afternoon and read it taking only a few breaks to eat, check Facebook, or watch TV. Meg Langslow is now the mother of twins and is caring for a friend's child while her friend is serving overseas in the Army. The mayor decides to abandon the town-owned shelter's no-kill policy so the citizens steal all the animals, and Meg finds them in her living room. One of these animals is a foul-mouthed macaw. They were supposed to have been transported by the local furniture store owner in his truck, but he didn't show up at the appointed time and place. Instead, he is found dead with his earring ripped from his ear. There are a lot of other themes in this book such as town finances, corrupt officials, and real estate development that play important roles. As with most of the Meg Langslow mysteries, there are some pretty funny scenes. I was quite pleased that Meg turned evidence over to the police chief rather trying to investigate it herself.. She did a fair amount of snooping, but she generally did so with permission. A great installment in an excellent cozy series. 4 stars.
