I am trying to figure this one out. I am really enjoying the read and the characters. The book feels like a mix of 60s Mississippi and Florida gumshoeing it. I like it.

I enjoyed this mystery very much. It was quite different than the other books I have been reading for Orange July which all seem to be based around war or the effects thereof. This one was kind of a fun read about a lawyer trying to solve a murder with a lot of other unexplained issues thrown in. I gave it a 3 1/2 star rating. So not great but good and enjoyable.

I think I'd really like this one. Mysteries are my go-to books.

I just read some of the reviews of this one, as I thought I might look for it. Written in the present tense, eh? I really don't like that style. Any comments on that aspect?

Linda, I don't usually like novels written in the present tense either, but within a few pages of this one I stopped noticing. So it might still work for you!

My general thoughts: I can see how this is a solid book, but I didn't connect much with it. It's just not my style. I did *love* his memories of his radical university days though! I wished the whole book was set in that time period, actually, and if Locke does publish a novel revolving around that I'll definitely read it. Also, I feel like Hoover's FBI + civil rights activists really justifies over-the-top conspiracy theories! ;)
