Why did I start this group? Well. there's nothing like it on Librarything. Back in January, I started the "Romance Language" group, which is my real area of expertise. To this new group I bring only a beginner's knowledge of Czech and an interest in the heavy Slavic element in Romanian vocabulary. On the other hand, I hope to learn much from the discussions and book lists of other members.

i speak only english, altho i am 3/4 polish & 1/4 croatian. have not (yet) read any of the above books.

Denseatoms, did you by any chance catch the Croatian-Serbian-etc. discussion some of us recently had in Language group? It might interest you, if you went to trouble of creating this one...

I am very interested in all Slavic languages, but my main interest is Polish. I will be taking a beginners course in Polish starting in late September. I am so excited! This summer I visited Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland. I really adored them all, but my heart lies in Cracow.

If anyone is studying the Russian language I have 2 texts to recommend: Ultimate Russian which is part of the Living Language series (there are two volumes: beginner-intermediate and advanced) and Russian Grammar as part of the Teach Yourself series. As well, you can't do without 501 Russian Verbs (Barron's Educational Series) as a reference. Wouldn't mind trading study tips with anyone else who is studying Russian.
