I never thought of Autumn has having particular drinks, other than pumpkin beer, but the WSJ begs to differ. Enjoy and let me know if you make any of these. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111903703604576584614281590614.html

I recently got a bottle of Crown Royal's Maple Whiskey. With just a single ice cube, it has a strong maple aroma and a definite maple aftertaste. I'll be trying a recipe for a shot of the maple whiskey, unsweetened iced tea and a squirt of fresh lemon.

My preference for fall is mulled cider with a little rum. I've also enjoyed an apple old fashioned (maybe more like an apple manhattan) with bourbon, maple syrup, and a slice of apple. Quite sweet but very pleasant.

Mostly though, when it gets cool I drink more stout.

Your apple old-fashioned sounds very good. I drink pumpkin or pecan ale in the fall, aside from many bottles of maple cream soda from New Hampshire.

I wonder if pumpkin can be fermented into a liquor.

It can! I knew I had some recipes in one of my cookbooks for making pumpkin ale, but here are the steps for making pumpkin wine.

My latest find is Leinenkugel's Harvest Patch Shandy. No lemonade (thankfully) as you'd expect in a shandy. It tastes like an actual pumpkin ale rather than an ale with pumpkin added later, as many do. It has a spiciness that is well-balanced, so it isn't a big mouthful of just cinnamon or just nutmeg.
Here's a pic because the logo is sort of hard to read.
