Just released in a second edition, "Bushwhackers and Broken Hearts," a book of Civil War letters to a Union soldier from Missouri. Edited and annotated by P. J. Sullivan. Dating from 1862 and 1863, the letters reflect conditions on the home front in rural Missouri and St. Louis. Also mentions of Helena, Arkansas, and Florence, Alabama. Absolutely non-fiction.

My favorite books of Civil War Letters all have some connection to the service of the 44th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in which my 2nd great grandfather served:

To See The Elephant: The Civil War Letters of John A. McKee
Burning Rails as We Pleased: The Civil War Letters of William Garrigues Bentley
Do They Miss Me at Home?: The Civil War Letters of William McKnight
