I think it would be good for us to catalog various issues we may have with our books. Clearly, this thread is primarily intended for DLEs, but any EP book that is "unacceptable" should be noted here. I also say "pics", because I think these are very important.
Please, if you post here, do include pics. Again, I feel these are important, because others may have the same issue and not even know it!
Of course, ideally this thread won't be used much, but here it is anyway...

Personally, if there is an issue with a book I have and I haven't noticed it before, I'm not sure I want someone to point it out. :-) But for those who want to know, this is a great idea.

I like the idea. We should have a similar thread over on the Folio board. I haven't bought any EP for a while because of quality issues.

Are you sure we need such a thread on the Folio board? I have never had a Folio Society production quality issue, only shipping/transit damage.

In all the years I've collected EP books, I've only received 2 books that were slightly damaged. I called, and they replaced them with no problem. Am I just lucky? I have not had all the issues others are talking about.

Methinks, indigosky, that you have perhaps never ordered a DLE! I never used to have any problems with Easton Press books, and in fact prior to the past 18 months or so, have maybe had to return 2 or 3 books out of hundreds. Lately, however, my experience is much worse, and not just on DLE titles. I recently sent back a regular book that was all bent at the corners within the shrink-wrap.

5-6: I've ordered a few of DLEs and have not had any issues! Am I lucky too? or are you guys unlucky? At any rate, I hope people post pics of any problems so the rest of us know what is going on. Of course, in the best case there will be few/no problems...

I have never had problems with EP books except DLE's. Of the 5 DLE's that I have ordered 3 have had serious quality issues.

Seriously? Actually, I probably have received more Folios with problems than EP books, both production errors and shipping damage (it's usually pretty obvious which). The difference is that I have more tolerance for errors in my Folios because I prefer their books to EP's. Just this morning I sent an email to their Folio requesting a replacement of my copy of As I Lay Dying.
I am either seriously unlucky or very picky. I have never requested a replacement from either EP or Folio for what I considered something minor though. You can ALWAYS find a fault if you actively look for one.

Just to follow up on this, I've posted a picture in my member profile that shows a fault with my Folio copy of As I Lay Dying. All of the cloth edges look worn and the threads are bared. They do not look rubbed; they just look as though whatever coating is put over the cloth threads was not applied thoroughly or correctly to the edges/corners.
The picture in my profile (perhaps I should start a photobucket account to track these errors) is not the best because the damaged edges kind of blend into the white of the pages of the book. It is worse in person than in the photo. On top of that, the corners of the paper side are both white. This is a very common fault and seems almost unavoidable in books with paper sides. But despite the frequency it is still annoying.

>5 indigosky:, 7: I've also been fortunate in my DLEs, with only one issue on a volume of Ovid that had off-center stamping of the spine titles and design. EP was helpful and sent a replacement copy.

>10 menteith: I had the same problem with the VS Pritchett stories. Hopefully the replacement copy is okay.
