Hi Everyone!

I'm so excited to be a part of the 75 Books Challenge again this year! Last year was so much fun, and I conquered some tomes that I never thought I'd find the time to add to my "Books Read" list!

I did a horrible job of socializing last year... although I used my thread to measure my books, I only made a few friends. I hope this year is different... I want to bond with more of my fellow bibliophiles!

I'm starting off the year reading "Les Miserables." Huge, yes, but extremely interesting! I'm nearly 1/3 done, so it is not technically a complete 2012 read. Oh well!

Stop by whenever you can!

Thanks, guys! I'm halfway done with Les Miserables as of today! I didn't have the biggest reading day today, as I adopted a new kitten, Ichabod! He is adorable, but he's semi-feral, so I'm nervous about his ability to adjust! Hopefully I'll be finishing up The Night Circus tonight!

What did you think of The Night Circus?

Good luck with Mr. Ichabod!

19: I'd also like to know what you thought. I just started reading The Night Circus last night.

Not a fan of The Night Circus. It's alright, but it didn't do that much for me. I thought that it was a little confusing at times, and often slow-moving. It sounds strange, but large tomes like Les Miserables draw me in much more. I don't want to say that The Night Circus was a waste of time at all, but I feel like I accomplish a lot and add to my understanding of the world when I read the classics.

I changed Ichabod's name to Moritz. Anyone who is familiar with Frank Wedekind's Spring's Awakening may know Moritz Stiefel... a "sad, soulful sleepyhead" and one of my favorite characters. It fits the new kitty. Let's just hope he doesn't commit suicide like the character he is named after...!!!

Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy The Night Circus more, Rebecca. I am really liking it myself.

I have never heard of Spring's Awakening. Is it worth seeking out?

24MissLibrarianLord
Jan 3, 2012, 2:02 pm

ABSOLUTELY! It's a play written in the 1890s... all about teenage angst. It was also turned into a Broadway musical in 2006. I adore it... so much that I got one of Moritz's best quotes tattooed down the my side!

Just a note to say I've starred your thread - looking at your last year's thread I think we read a lot of the same sort of books. I'm new to this Group and don't know people either but I'm trying to star a few not to get overwhelmed.

Good luck with your 2012 reading. I'm having a really slow start - haven't read anything yet but I have the excuse that I have an assignment due in next week and everything else is on hold until that's finished.

Hi SandDune! Thanks so much! I'm really excited that you've reached out! Keep me posted, and I'll be sure to follow your thread as well!

I will be working on my master's thesis this semester, so I'm sure my reading will have to slow down a bit. My parents complained about my HUGE drop in my desire to socialize while I was home for the holidays... they claim I read way too much. And that is coming from two adults that read a lot themselves! I do have to admit... I hit the bars a lot less frequently than in past years, haha!

I just hit 1,000 pages on Les Miserables, and I hope to finish it by next Monday!

Does anyone have any good suggestions for books about the food industry? I'm in the middle of making dietary choices for myself as well as researching the treatment of animals. Suggestions are welcome!!!

Thanks MissLibrarianLord - just read this post, and remembered how much I enjoyed Les Miserables when I was in school - I had vowed then to reread it someday - so I just added it to my TBR list.
