Hey, I went there and came away with a haul of about five books. I really wanted to buy more, but I didn't want to go hungry for the next few weeks. :)

Did you go? What was your haul?

oh wow! good to find pinoys in here. didn't go the the fair, as i believe the books would be much pricey by my standards. what books did you get, btw?

Too bad. Everything was marked down really low - A Diff. Bookstore was down to 25% off, fully Booked and National was off 20% on all books, and Anvil had a huge catalog of Filipino works.

We didn't get much, like I said. I've tagged our haul as "bookfair", which you can see in the link below.

As is typical, a significant chunk of my money went to buying academic texts I need for my classes. Actually, in the case of Book Fair 2006, that's just one academic text: Media and Cultural Studies: KeyWorks.

As for leisure reading, I think A Different Bookstore made for the best bargains. Not only were discounts big, they also had special package deals.

I took advantage of the 3-for-PhP 199 deal and got myself three novels by Iain M. Banks: Inversions, Against a Dark Background, and Feersum Endjinn.

Had I been able to go back, I would have probably picked up Vernor Vinge's A Deepness in the Sky from A Different Bookstore, but I told myself to be a "good boy" and not spend for it when I still haven't read his A Fire Upon the Deep. Do I sound like I'm convincing myself?

Anyway, I'm rather curious if anyone has read those titles above and also the following: Natural History by Justina Robson and The Darkest Part of the Woods by Ramsey Campbell.

Both of these were also on sale in A Different Bookstore's booth, and I highly recommend them.

micketymoc: got a lot of books this time. had to be very patient in choosing the correct buys. my best purchases: The Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby (god, he's so good!), The Pig That Wants to be Eaten: 100 Experiments for the Armchair Philosopher by Julian Baggini, Watching the English by Kate Fox; on terrific sale: a hardcover copy of How to be Good by Nick Hornby and Encarta Concise English Dictionary. i'm reading now The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman--so far, i'm thrilled. these are my favorites so far as i've sampled pages already; i actually have a longer loot list. hay naku, wala na akong pera! :)

powerbooks (bookfair booth). naku, hurry, the makati branches might just have copies pa. but this is just 14 months' worth of his The Believer columns. penguin-u.k. just released, if i'm not mistaken, the complete 28 months' worth of his columns called the complete polysyllabic spree. god knows when our local bookstores will carry it. will try to ask for help from powerbooks and fully-booked to order asap. god, this guy's really good. i have officially called myself a "hornby ho" (excuse me for the seemingly offensive name), right after i finished reading several pages.

nice thing tho, powerbooks and national has occasional booksales so dun na lang.
