Dantes enemies and his revenge

Consider the four enemies of Edmond Dantès and discuss how the punishment that the Count of Monte Cristo inflicts upon them is related to their deepest ambitions.

Using Monte Cristo's concept that great suffering requires prolonged punishment rather than instantaneous death, discuss the justice of the punishment that he inflicts on each of them.

Villefort's humiliation in court when he accuses his own son, whom he thought he had buried, was the most appropriate. I thought that finding his wife was killing his whole family was too much. He suffered a long, long time with that covering it up.

Danglars losing all of his money and reputation was interesting. Being held prisioner and paying for his food was something I never would have thought of.

Having Ferdinand exposed and lose his family and then killing himself seemed also a little lucky with the facts.

Caderousse being killed by Benedetto in the Count's arms also seemed a little contrived.
