Loved this group in 2011, only made 34 of my 75, our first grandchild had me side-lined. Now my daughter is expecting her first = )
Anyway, I'm Bonnie from Lawrenceville, GA just a stones throw from Atlanta or the beautiful GA mountains. I'll turn 50 this year. Love my books, love my dog, Ben.
I'd like to track states too and would love to do a group read should I find one...so here we go.

1 The Necklace 3.5*
1 non-fiction 1 California (library)
So Jonell desires a diamond necklace with a price tag of $37,000. Within weeks the price falls to $24,000 and bids are taken. Jonell thinks why not share a luxury item such as this as we do art when we stand beside one another viewing a beautiful masterpiece? Here's the gem, this is a true story that took place in 2004 in Ventura, CA. Jonell sold this to 12 women to "buy in" and each pay at last $1,000 for the lower bid of $15,000. Each lady would have the necklace that they actualy named Jewela for their birth month with just 2 overlaps. Now Jewela almost takes on a character all it's own.
I'm pleased one lady pushed this to our book club of 10. The story is so much more than it appears with members inviting the public to come spend an evening with Jewela and the benefit proceeds going to charity groups. The community became a part of this joint venture and benifited greatly. Character changes that impacted a person's lifestyle was documented. I'm not in to diamonds myself and neither were some of the women that bought in. They bought in to an experience that was truly rewarding. Empower 13 women, let them brain storm, see what you get! 3.5*
btw, can I get maybe 12 of ya to go $2,000 on a new Jeep Wrangler? I'll let ya pick color = )

#3, 4, & 6 thanks on Ben's behalf. He's my buddy. The receptionist at our office messaged me yesterday would I come up to meet her visiting Mother. Imagined how I laughed when she introduced me as Ben's Mom. Seems as if Ben's Facebook appearances as well as his office visits has him a fan club. He's the happiest dog to have his picture taken.
#5 & #7 Jim & Stasia, hi guys. So regardless of how badly I fell off my book wagon last year, I'm back at it with a longer list. I will be popping in soon!

Hi Bonnie....can't believe I didn't get to your thread last year, but now, thanks to your brilliant response to 'name that book' I've got your starred. And already, I agree with both your January books- - my sister Chèli (cyderry) gave me her copy of The Necklace during my Christmas visit to her, and I just finished all four of the kate Atkinson books. Can't wait to see what you've come up with.

tutu, I haven't visited with many that know of The Necklace it's such a simple read but how nice that it was non-fiction & the transformation along with the good for the community was powerful. I too, have you starred. Aren't we all just a hot mess that we not only love reading but we love to read about what others are reading and then chat so about it? When I was a sophmore in HS, our honor's english teacher had us write about our own deaths right up to planning our funeral. Of course, I tried to use symbolism & creativity and thought the paper was great fun. It had many thinking of their end which appeared to bother a few. Sadly the teacher, Mrs. Curry lost her job over this call much to my disagreement. So this Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral is my type of read as I'm all over the place with my genre's!

**Aah, a British mystery, add a lil' Scottish accent, toss in a good dog, my how I have taken to Kate Atkinson.
I typed the above as I was starting this one. How did it take me so long to find Kate Atkinson? Her character development is just outstanding without boring me, even down to the description of clothes as it relates in this case to Reggie a very unusual 16 year old.
The immediate capture of your attention starts at least on page two. You are back a few decades reliving a crime that will come back into play in present time while encircling so many other characters. Know the mystery that you intently read and POP there's that pop of humor you didn't expect that has you laughing out loud and then oh quickly back to the details and the story? Know that book that leaves you visualing each character, that if you passed them on the walk you'd certainly recognize them? Oh and that male character that's rough shod, smart and ever so desirable? Yes, each of these is how I "live in" When Will There Be Good News. Yes, yes, I'll admit I do find myself missing the most desirable Jackson Brodie, isn't he reason enough to try the Kate Atkinson series? = ) Indeed! 4*

This one has been on my list forever. So I did not know anything about this book prior to reading. I can see that it was recommended to me because I am such a Foodie, add to that I do like a bit of magic and a coming of age book can hold my attention. Yes, I can see why this book came up.
It appears there is a family trait in Rose's heritage. This unique talent is different in each member and is unbeknown by others in the family. Rose is just 9 when she discovers she can taste emotions of the preparer in their food. Personally, I would have thought, "OK, that's a bit neat and maybe useful". But what if you can't be selective of turning this off? What if it lends itself to learn of things that you really shouldn't know?
This book is a coming of age story and I think a bit symbolic. Yes, simple and slow in areas but interesting none the less. I did both book and audio. The author read for the audio and I would not recommend her. Bender kept the book light for this particular subject matter. 3*

My furkids are all doing great, thanks asking! We've had a very mild winter, for which I've been thankful. It's much easier on the Old Red Mare. She doesn't have much extra padding to keep her warm anymore. Still plenty of get-up-and-go, though. It warms my heart to see her racing across the field, mane and tail flying, at 31 years old.

How odd that I discovered this series of Kate Atkinson in reverse! I quite like how so many characters are introduced independently and eventually tied together. This would be the 2nd book in the series if one was so inclined to read them in order, and what a madcap cast was introduced. The aging wife, Gloria Hatter was almost wearing a super heroes cape in my imagination by the end. I do like the sarcasm of Jackson Brodie a great deal. It's a bit attractive!

Classic
A Victorian, gothic read with layers upon layers of prose. Written in the epistolary style and said to be the first true "mystery" story written. If one could push past the first Chapter it becomes less flowery and within the first 70 pages your theme will reveal itself quite simply. There's Walter, the poor Artist, that has been given a once in a life time employment opportunity to work at a very wealthy estate. You see the mysterious woman in white soon revealed to have a connection to the place Walter will travel. The reader catches on quickly as to the mystery but the unfolding of the mystery is one event after another. Overlook the fainting feminine parts and you have a simple mystery as well as the first in history. 3*

If you think this is just a dog book, please reconsider. Author Tom Ryan has created beautiful prose in telling his story of life with little Atticus. He quotes well known, historical authors, he pens poetry and he tells a fabulous story. Ryan's ability to use sarcasm had me laughing as well as being down right spooked from tales of nights on the mountains.
Not far into the book I stopped and checked out the CD as well. I adored this read, can not imagine skimming as someone earlier mentioned. This book would make a great keeper for my very select "need to own" library. My husband & I took small jaunts on our honeymoon in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. What is not to love when you add this "Little Giant" four legged friend? The bond and the healing power to Tom Ryan and many others is something I wouldn't have wanted to miss. 5*

I don't usually give much crediance to the books that are the rave. So when I heard on Jeopardy that the author thought of this book while changing TV channels between a war movie and a reality TV show, I was interested. Our book club needed another selection and with this suggested it was definite that I would read it whether it pop or not.
I was hooked by the second page. I defended it to others that asked me wasn't it a book full of violence and kids being killed. I discussed it in detail with many different age groups when they saw me reading it. I'm just as eager to go see the movie with my grown daughter and daughter-in-law.

#39: I saw Night Circus in my book shop and I think I will get a copy of this book.

I started this book on a plane from Atlanta to San Francisco and although there was a slight difference to me than book 1, I still found I did not want to put it down.
So as not to give any more spoilers than needed, I can say this book takes me far away into another futuristic place. The characters from book one become bound closer in the sequel. Even Gail, Katniss' close friend and Peeta become bound to another. Katniss prep team becomes emotional attached to both Katniss and Peeta in ways that Katniss has a hard time accepting herself. "“The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol’s plans. The symbol of the rebellion.” This statement and the timing was excellent. The symbolism are often simple from the pin, the watch, to the wedding dress.
The characters are developing well as you hurt that Katniss has long ago turned off an emotional side of herself which keeps her a bit untrusting of others and of even her own future. But with this story does that not fit? I did see the movie after reading book one. I thought it well cast and it certainly helped me to have great disdain for President Snow in book two.
I thought it well worth the read and found myself thinking about that world even while I was on vacation on the west coast. 4*

OK, I'm good with this final book of the series. I had been warned not to expect as much but I liked it. I did not expect it to be perfect and how was it going to end in such a way? Yes, there were some folks who met their end without a great bit of detail that were loved characters and yes, Katniss came unglued. I like the couple of surprises toward the end that I did not see happening, with the arrow, the wedding, Katniss' final partner. Truly, I stayed up til 3:30 am on a work night to finish. So enjoyed this series. 4*

I like the couple of surprises toward the end that I did not see happening, with the arrow, the wedding, Katniss' final partner. Truly, I stayed up til 3:30 am on a work night to finish. So enjoyed this series. 4*

13 The Dog Who Knew Too Much 3.5*
Author, Spencer Quinn has the ability to write things that his dog Chet would say that honestly, I think my dog is thinking and relaying to me in looks and attitude. I truly think Chet is doing this! In short, this series is light but so very entertaining. If you are a real dog person there's a few chuckles in here for you with a little mystery. 3.5*

Yes, Yes, I had to go ahead and pick up another book in the series to see what adventure Chet the Jet would be up to next. Spencer Quinn surprised me just a bit in this one as he writes of Chet having a little fling, which I had to chuckle about later. Ah, the things we know about Bernie and Chet.

15 The Graveyard Book 4.5*
What a magical read! Just up my alley. I so enjoyed this story which is part mystery, part short stories, and part magical realism. A small toddler still in diapers crawls away from his house on an adventure right at the time when the villian Jack is murdering the toddlers family. The little boy crawls into an old gated cemetery and meets up with quite the cast of ghostly characters. They manage to protect the baby from being murdered and decide to raise the baby along with a guardian, Silas, who is neither alive nor dead. They name the toddler Nobody Owens and affectionately call him "Bod". The years that pass are so interesting that even my John Grisham reading husband got involved as we listened to the audio on a car trip. Wonderful read that takes you into the now and somewhere else altogether. Adored my first Neil Gaiman book immensely. 4.5*

16 Joy For Beginners 4.5*
Have you ever lost someone and you just know their unique smell void of any perfume? Author, Erica Bauemeister touches on a very intimate knowledge I share with one character in Joy for Beginners. I was amazed to read the words!
Surviving cancer taught Kate that life should be embraced, chances should be taken & there is joy to be found when a challenge is won. To celebrate her recovery, Kate gives herself & 6 friends different challenges. Each woman, through their challenge learns to overcome fears, embrace love & enoy life to its fullest. This is a book of friendships. Life is breathing in!!
I don't always do well with the standard chick lit but this was far more reaching into the minds healing. Will read author's other book "School of Essential Ingredients" based on her writing style. 4.5*

I agree, Chet is a "real dog". His understanding, his priorities, and his loyalties are spot on! Love that series.
I have The Graveyard Book on my kindle and am looking forward to reading it. Someday. I think it would be a nice October read.

Another book I enjoyed listening to and reading. If you a re a foodie, read this. If you enjoy cooking, read this. If you like a little chick lit, read this. There were many lines I read aloud to my husband who stated he could see why I enjoyed this book as much. Good news, I believe this Jan., the author will have a spin off of this book. 4.5

18 American Gods
I would just being reaching to describe this book. It's interesting as it deals with Norse Gods in America and the most unusual character of an ex-convict. There are times when I became lost in this odd fantasy more like a roller coaster where you are have the story running at you full speed and you aren't sure where you will land after the plunge thru the storytelling. Neil Gaiman's work in American Gods defies being placed in a category and I don't know that I could accuratly rate this work either.

I would rate this book avarage for me. It moves thru friendship, young love, brotherly relationship and small community with a sweet pureness but rather slower paced for what I would normally read. 3*

20 The Knitting Circle 3 1/2*
This is not The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber. And don't expect it to be a let's sit and knit story. Ann Hood deals with severe grief and loss. Hood tells the story where you feel the character drowning or losing her mind due to her grief. Thru a special bond of women that share that same over whelmimg loss Mary the main character tries to knit as therapy and attempts to figure out how to do anything in life again. One might think this is a bit much on tragedy but that is a support groups function. The bleakness in this story is overshadowed by the story of strength and recovery and the first day when you smiled again. 3. 1/2*

21 The Good Woman by Jane Porter 3 3/4*
The Good Woman takes place in Californa wine country involving 5 sisters and their families. The setting alone is endearing then add the entaglement of family ties and I had myself a vacation book. I took off to the North Ga. Mtns, poured our favorite Italian wine and became so very interested in the workings of this California family. Porter spells out some heart wrenching truths of relationships whether it's between a husband and a wife or the odd dynamics of sisters. Because I became so intimate with the family, I felt myself trying to cut each member some slack and I'd look for their redeeming qualities...lol just like I do my own family. This trilogy will pick up again with book 2, "The Good Daughter", and I'll be looking for it! 3 3/4*

#45: I still haven't started with night circus, but I plan to read it soon. I'll keep you informed. :)
#46: I read The Hunger Games and I liked it quite well. But somehow it didn't keep me interested enough to continue with the sequels. Maybe that is because I have enough books I want to have read before.
#47: My dog knows way too much, too. You just have to take a look at him and you can guess: He knows...! ;)
#49 + 53: I own American Gods by Gaiman but I haven't been in the mood to read it yet. Somehow I think it must be the perfect book for a long weekend in front of the chimney while snow is falling, so that you can really get caught in it. To quote another bestseller... "Winter is coming" - and so is the right time for American Gods.
#55 + 56: The Knitting Circle sounds interesting, but I think it's too serious and dark for me at the moment, whilde The Good Woman looks like something I have to keep in mind!
Greatings to Ben and Chili!

22 A Dog's Purpose 5 * (would give more)
Adored!!! What a special story and a unique way the author has in leading the reader to think! As an animal lover I truly can be leary of a dog story. I don't want to be in tears and I dislike spending a minutes worth of time on any mistreatment of animals. However, some things that are sad happen and are hard to avoid yet Bruce Cameron had such an artful manner in approaching these situations. I also listened to the audio which I can rave on about but I said that because this is how my husband became hooked on the story as well. Every day after work he'd come thru the doors telling me what Bailey's antics for the day was. This is from a IT Director who usually goes on and on about work. Loved the story line and will read anything written by this man going forward! 5*

24 The Wednesday Letters 4 *
This book was recommended to me by someone that knew a lot about what I read but did not know me. I got the book, was skeptical because I read over many genres, but started what looked like a fairly simple read. This is a story of a husband who promised to love his wife forever and in doing so he would write her a love letter every Wednesday of his life. The book includes more than just letters and with that said I became oddly drawn to one character. This is a uniquely sweet story that may just be too sweet for some. Many readers can like bad characters in spite of but not always can a reader like the really good for the same reason. This couple is faith based but live in an imperfect world and "secrets" are released in reading the Wednesday letters. I enjoyed this easy read greatly and was impressed to find that the author Jason F Wright had attached me to the right character for a reason and did so rather unbeknownst to me as I read. 4*

The very unique story telling of John Green writing YA lit in regards to teens with cancer.
My daughter-in-law recommeneded this book based on John Greens ability to tell this story from the teens perspective. At the end of my reading year I did not want to be in tears and she assured me I'd enjoy his writing style.
Hazel Grace, 17 yr old "having cancer" is attending a cancer support group. Here she meets Isaac and Augustus Waters. The author manages to take you in to their cancer ridden world with humor and realism that will surprise the average reader. Hazel is intelligent beyond her years and has a favorite book that becomes so real to her. The story revolves around this book and the insight of these 3 teens.
I closed the book thinking of what the walk must be like. It takes your mind to many places. Enjoyed and recommend.
