I only made it to 43 in 2011 - I know! what was I doing with my time? It's that damn thing work that takes up a lot of the day. But I did read some good books and try out some new authors. Here is my 5 best reads of 2011 in no particular order:
Favourite Books of 2011
1. The Year of the Flood
2. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
3. Burnt Shadows
4. Room
5. I Shall Wear Midnight
I'm starting the year off to a flying start with the 2nd and 3rd books of The Hunger Games trilogy. I'm halfway through Mockingjay, can you believe I forgot it this morning and had nothing to read on the train. Grrr

Thanks!
I tried to read a book I downloaded on my iphone, the font was so big and the screen so small that it was more of an exercise in finger swooshing than reading. Remembered book today.

Finished Mockingjay, the final part of The Hunger Games trilogy. Woah! It was pretty gut-wrenching stuff.
Next up is Jamrach's Menagerie for my Orange January challenge.

Hi, Kirsty! I read Year of the Flood and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society last year too and loved them both. Makes me think that I should maybe hang round here and await recommendations from you... :)

Hi, yes they were both great reads. Feel free to drop by anytime :) How are you finding Ulysses? I live in Dublin but have never tried it.

I've finished my first Orange January book Jamrach's Menagerie by Carol Birch. It's set in the Victorian period and seemed a little flowery at first but slowly becomes a grippingly poignant tale about survival.
I have a stack of books on the shelf to read but might try the library first for another Orange read.

Next up is my 2nd Orange January read Molly Fox's Birthday.
12kirsty
Molly Fox's Birthday was an intelligent and subtle book. A gentle contemplation of relationships and self.
Next up is The Sisters Brothers.

Really enjoying The Sisters Brothers what a narrator! Has someone snapped up the film rights yet? I wouldn't be surprised. And I love the design of my edition.
14kirsty
The Sisters Brothers was a fantastic read. The voice of the narrator was an unexpected joy. Next up is a book from the library The Invisible Ones.
15kirsty
Current read is Birds Without Wings by Louis de Bernieres. Epic sweep across pre first world war Turkey.
16kirsty
Now reading YA fiction Hush Hush, I needed something light after Birds Without Wings.
17kirsty
Hush, Hush was a really light YA fiction romance about a fallen angel. Perfect for zipping through at home today on sick leave. Now reading Let the Great World Spin.
18kirsty
If anyone hasn't yet read Let the Great World Spin read it now it is a stupendously good book. Set in the 70s in New York and taking the tightrope walk between the Twin Towers as it's lynchpin.
Now reading a very short book by Colm Toibin Lady Gregory's Toothbrush it's described as a biographical essay and is about a woman who mentored many Irish writers including WB Yeats.

I'm also reading Winter in Madrid by CJ Sansom but not part of the Shardlake series. It's a thriller set in Spain during WW2. So far so good.
20kirsty
Next up is Naming the Bones by Louise Welsh, great Scottish thriller.
