I grew up in downtown Salt Lake City and remember walking by the Cathedral of the Madeleine on North Temple on my way to and from elementary school. I LOVED the architecture and gargoyles, and appreciated it so much even as a small child. Wow, it was beautiful! That memory sparked an interest when I saw this book.
In looking at reviews at my local library site, the book is a bit too spicy for my taste. I look forward to visiting the cathedral again in person.

The Cathedral of the Madeleine is amazing! Did you ever get a chance to go inside? Even better, IMO! I recently bought a copy of Mooney's history of the cathedral which I'm excited to read someday. Though I'm not Catholic and don't live in SLC anymore, I still try to visit the Cathedral when I can. I attended mass there in April.
I just finished Pillars for the second time so your thread grabbed my attention. I liked it a lot more this time than I did the last time I read it about 9 years ago. It is very explicit is some parts, however. I am a lifelong student of medieval England so the plot is right up my alley.
Thanks for the topic!
