I see the high rating of the audio version of The Ring of Solomon, the prequel to the Bartimaeus series by Jonathan Stroud. Not having read the other books, can someone advise whether I should read these in publication order or start with the prequel.

Since it is a prequel, naturally nothing that happened in the trilogy will have any bearing on this story. However, one gets to know Bartimaeus in those books and I think that enhances the enjoyment of the prequel in that regard. Like the Star Wars movies, knowledge of future events gives one a special appreciation of events that happen in I, II, and III.

You're in for a treat 2wonderY, they are great books. Bartimaeus is a very fun character and Simon Jones, the narrator of the audio books is absolutely wonderful. I agree with mamzel, I think if I were starting them again for the first time I would still start with The Amulet of Samarkand.

I look forward to starting. I've got them ordered from the library and will follow your advice.

Thanks to you both.
