I welcome the end of such corny marketing nostalgia. "France in a glass," my ass.

If it's going to take two years to do renovations, it sounds as if they are tearing the whole place down.

Here's a nice article about bars made famous by their literary patrons from around the world. http://lithub.com/a-visual-tour-of-35-literary-bars-and-cafes-from-around-the-wo... The only one I've actually been to is Sloppy Joe's.

I haven't been to any of them, but by the name alone, I want to visit the Frolic Room.

>4 varielle: Great article, thanks for posting! How could I have not seen the White Horse in NYC when I've spent two weeks walking all over the city.

Five on my list... Tortoni, Floridita, Pedrocchi, Les deux magots and L’Antico Caffè Greco--the last one a fave despite ungodly popularity with tourists. Sadly, it's threatened with closure.
