I'm going to have a prize but I can't seem to decide on whether it should be the most popular cover by vote, or the most creative use of the theme by vote, or just a random drawing from every book read. What do you think?

The prize will be a cross-stitched bookmark on a theme of the winner's choice.

ETA: The contest will be for the "Best Object that Can be Carried by the Wind on a Book Cover."

How about having the contest be for the "Best Flying Object on a Book Cover"? In that way, it will be up to the voter to decide if it's for the most popular or the most creative.

Those are creative and lovely ideas - both for the challenge and the prize!

Will you be running the vote and determining the winner after the end of the month, or is that something that you want me to do?

I thought I was going to run it but you know, you have a lot more experience than I at it. If you have the time and inclination, I sure would appreciate it. I like your idea, just call it the "best" and leave it at that.

Will do. This should be lots of fun! I was just thinking that it was about time for another contest, but I couldn't think of a good one. Yours is perfect.

In your first message, put the parameters for entry into the contest.

Bird.

eta: Alas - bogged down in the middle of this book. Shan't get it finished by month's end.

Morphy, can we use pictures of birds perching, or must they be actually flying?

I'm going to assume that my perched bird will be fine for the challenge - "Read a book with a picture of something that can be carried by the wind on its cover" - but won't work for the contest - "Best Flying/Blown Object on a Book Cover".

Morphy, is there some way we can make these match?

Fixed! It is now, "Best Object that Can be Carried by the Wind on a Book Cover."

This means that it just needs to be possible for the object to be carried, not that it actually is being carried, i.e. a perched bird is fine.

Here's my pick (until I find something more interesting)...

ETA: I'm keeping this as my pick. It's such a weird (and fun) read!

Morph, will candle flames work for this challenge?

Dandelion fluff can surely be carried away by the wind.

>16 majkia: No, while they are affected by the wind, I couldn't say they were "carried."

Leaves

Thanks, Morphy, for this challenge. My leaves are not the best example of flying through the air, but I was already commited to reading this book and I couldn't get it to fit any where else!

There's a scarf on the bench which could be carried away by the wind but I particularly liked the book, handbag and glass in the tree branches - have they been carried there by the wind?

I've been trying desperately to fit this into a challenge (I didn't really want to use the initials SS, and I do like the colours on this cover), so here it is; the lady has a scarf tied around her waist that could be blown on the wind.

Leaves. And bonus fun - the leaves are actually being carried by the wind on this cover!

eta: COMPLETED. 5 Stars!
