RIP Margaret Mahy

I've been teary-sad all day to hear of the death of Margaret Mahy. True genius, infected several generations of New Zealanders with the reading bug. 200+ titles, some unrivalled in brilliance, but all at least unique and wonderful. Did tireless school visits and speaking for literacy as well.

Yes indeed. A wonderful talent as a writer for children of all ages and very engaging as a reader/performer, even as recently as this year's writers'/readers' week in Wellington at which she read several of her popular stories.

Mahy was one of my favourite writers for teens and young adults. Memory, The tricksters and Catalogue of the universe will haunt me for the rest of my life because of Mahy's fine, descriptive prose and her compelling characters. I'm not sure whether all her books are/were available in Britain, but I'm grateful for the chance to have read some of her wonderful work, and saddened by the loss.

Very sad about this. She certainly influenced me while I was growing up!

Just saw this now. It is impressive that a single author was able to produce so many high quality books. In Canada we have access to a pretty limited number of her titles, but I've always snapped up anything I could find. The Changeover is one of my favourite books ever.

I guess I totally missed the boat about this one. So sad to hear this. I've enjoyed many of her books and introduced my children to them.
