Hello! I'm a new Member

This group made me smile and I am a bit puzzled (where is the time to go online and talk?). For me, when I am crocheting, nothing gets me out of the zone, its always one more round and then I'll go eat, clean, etc.

SO, here you guys are trying to have discussions but I hardly see any chatter...maybe I am not the only one obssessed.

I love to crochet but I am still in the novice stage. I love doing delicate patterns like those (used to be) featured in Magic Crochet and usually require cotton thread. I love filet--that's the square ones, right?--also happens to be the patterns I "excel" in--but my favourites are the motifs and doilies--that's the round ones, right?--of which I have a whole lot of trouble finishing.
Another problem I have with finishing is after I do one piece, I have to force myself to start another of the set. (I usually want to do pieces to display on a entertainment centre, dresser, arm and backrest for settees, etc.)
I haven't crocheted in months, my last unfinished projected defeats me--problems joining the doilies (sigh!)--I need some resource material, so any suggestions on which book to get?

if you like doilies my faves are in my catolog, most I own. I like just about anything by Patricia Kristoffersen and Mary Werst

If you are having trouble with the joining part consider looking for join as you go patterns when doing small motifs.

When I first started crocheting, I had no patience whatsoever for joining and finishing the work.

It took me awhile to not see it as the least interesting part of what needed to be done, but now I enjoy seeing how a piece reveals itself when it is completely joined, blocked, and all the ends are woven in.

I've been around awhile but never posted before. I think I'm also too busy reading and crocheting to bother actually posting anything! LOL.

However, I just had to share: if anyone is looking for a very active crochet community, and good resources, go check out www.ravelry.com. A friend recently clued me into it - it's fantastic! Members post projects with full specs - yarn, hooks, pictures, how long, how difficult, what changes were made to the pattern, etc. There are also plenty of busy messageboards for advice, yarn swapping, and the like. Highly recommend it.

I just joined too everyone! I've been on Ravelry for a while too, it's worth the wait to get in. I think you couldn't have found anyone better to give you the answer to you question. I hope they helped.

I know exactly what you mean ljstahlhut, I think that's the hardest part of crocheting. And all of it's very easy. Let me rephrase then, it's the least straight forward, it took me so long to do it so I'm happy it didn't take you that long!

Has anyone read any really great crochet books (that you would recommend to a advanced crochet) lately?
